Division: 1st Guards Rifle Division. My grandfather, Alekseenko Alexey Potapovich, met the war at the age of 22. My grandfather comes from Belarus, Mogilev region, Klimovichi district, the village of Klimovtsy. His family was large and early children were left without a mother ... She was swollen from hunger even before the war. The kids stayed with their dad, and later a stepmother appeared in their family, which is their 11 children! She raised her worthily and dedicated her life to them. Of his 11 brothers and sisters, 5 went to war. The rest of the brothers and sisters remained in the rear, being small. My grandfather went through the entire war, was twice seriously wounded, twice was wounded, but this did not prevent him from continuing to fulfill his duty to the Motherland! His strong will and great desire to live, his valor, courage and incredible fortitude brought my grandfather Hero to Berlin, where he met the Great Victory on May 9, 1945. During the war, grandfather did not know if his brothers were alive, where they were, at which end of our Motherland they were fighting and suffered, knowing that he might never see them again ... But it was on May 9, 1945 that a memorable and last meeting between brother and brother took place .... Grandpa met in Berlin, on Victory Day, his younger brother Nikolai! Nikolai was mortally wounded and forever closed his eyes in my grandfather's arms ... Nikolai was buried in Germany. During the war, my grandfather was repeatedly awarded: 2 Orders of Courage, 2 Orders of Courage, 2 Medals for Merit to the Fatherland and many other orders and medals. He carefully kept them and every time, on Victory Day, he put them on with pride and with tears in his eyes! After the war, after spending more than one month in the hospital, my grandfather recovered. He created a strong and close-knit family, raised and raised 6 children, but unfortunately, he left us very early, at the age of 69 ... All his life, grandfather passed with a splinter in his left leg, which was not removed to him ... My grandfather is a Hero ! I am proud of him and will carry the memory of him to my next generations !!!
