All children from an early age were engaged in peasant labor. They kept a horse, a cow, sheep, chickens, geese. So childhood was by no means easy. The family lived in need and worked tirelessly. We lived by our own labor. The elder brother Nikolai went to the front at the very beginning of the war. Unfortunately, he did not return from the front, he died on the battlefields. Great-grandfather studied at school number 6, which was located where the district clinic is now. Grandfather graduated from the 7th grade in 1941. After training, he returned to his hometown of Kusu and went to work at the Machine-Building Plant. At the factory, together with other guys, they made shells for the army. In those years the Great Patriotic War was going on. As young boys 15-17 years old, they worked in two shifts. Each had to make 60 pieces of shells. They knew that our soldiers needed their shells. Grandfather constantly ran to the military registration and enlistment office and asked to go to the front. In 1943, my grandfather was drafted into the service at the age of 17. He went to the front as a volunteer. Twelve guys from Kusa and their grandfather went to the front. Grandpa ended up in the Northern Fleet in Murmansk. The service was not easy.
