After the liberation of Gorlovka as a result of the Donbass operation, Nikolai Golovin was drafted into the ranks of the Active army. He fought as an infantryman in the ranks of the 4th Ukrainian front under the command of Marshal F. I. Tolbukhin. During the liberation of the Odessa region, he was severely concussed during one of the attacks of the Red Army. For a long time he was treated in the Odessa hospital, where, according to him, they were overfed with fried flounder. Then his treatment continued in the city of Saratov. After demobilization, he dedicated his entire life to the mining industry region. On May 9, 1945, Nikolai Fyodorovich's father perished during his job in the mine that became native to him - mine No. 5, named after Lenin. He graduated from the Gorlovka industrial technical school and worked as the head of the mining section at the Ruduch mine. His entire career was connected with the mine No. 5: the Head of the section, the Chairman of the trade Union Committee, the Deputy Director for administrative and economic work - these are the steps of the career growth of Golovin Nikolay Fedorovich.
