Viktor Bashinsky

My grandfather Viktor Bashinsky Petrovich was born on June 20, 1926 in the village of Sarnovichi Narodnichesky District of Zhytomyr Region. He with his parents moved to the Far East to the Primorsky Region of the Imansky District, to the village of Lazo when he was five. There he spent his childhood and youth. When the war began, his father Peter was called up to the front. From his letters, the family learned about Peter's military life, how he was awarded the medal For Bravery. My grandfather inherited his firmness of character and indomitable will to win - at the age of 17, he volunteered for the front. In the fighting against the Japanese imperialists, Red Army soldier Viktor Bashinsky served as a signalman in the 68th Separate Signal battalion. He was awarded the medal For Bravery (#3058788), the medal For Victory over Japan (#1517780420), and for Bravery, Fortitude and Courage Shown in the Battles for the Motherland on April 6, 1985. He received the Order of the Patriotic War 2nd degree. After the end of the war, he was left to serve in the Red Army. Before the war, my grandfather had a dream to learn to play the accordion well. By nature, he had an excellent ear for music, independently mastered the ability to play the accordion and guitar. After military service, he came to Tula in 1951 to enroll in a music school, but arrived late, as the enrollment was already over. However, the trip to Tula was not in vain. As fate would have it, in this city he met a girl named Elena, fell in love with her, and the next day, October 19, 1951, my grandparents registered their marriage. Through the newspaper, the young couple learned that in the city of Magnitogorsk, workers were required for the metallurgical plant. So it was decided to move and settle in Magnitogorsk, where my grandparents lived until the end of their days. Grandfather's working years were spent at the Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel works in LPC #4. For the conscientious work as an operator, he was awarded the title Veteran of Labor. The whole family congratulated our grandparents on their 50th anniversary of marriage in 2001 - on their Golden wedding. Viktor Bashinsky passed away on February 17, 2007, and four years later, his wife Elena Bashinskaya died on February 17, 2011. For me, they will always be an example of how to live, love, raise children and take care of grandchildren, how to overcome challenges and enjoy life, find solutions in difficult situations and at the same time remain responsive people with an open heart. I love my family, cherish the memory of it and am proud of my roots, so I want to sincerely thank the organizers and coordinators of the "Immortal Regiment" for the opportunity to tell about the life, fate and military past of my grandfather. Now, more than ever, it is important to honor and preserve the memory of the Great Patriotic war. We have no right to forget the feat of our ancestors, to allow the rewriting of history and the revival of Nazism. Glory to our veterans! Those who forged victory at the front and in the rear! Eternal glory to the heroes who fell in the battles for the Motherland, who gave their lives for the freedom and happiness of future generations!
