From the memoirs of a front-line soldier: "I was taken to the front from school in Kuibyshev where the NKVD ( People's Commissariat of Internal Affairs) brigade was formed. Our group was part of the group of troops of the Transcaucasian Front, later transformed into the North Caucasian Front. In December 1942 there were hard defensive battles in the Caucasus, including Grozny area, which was an important boundary of our Motherland during the war".
