Donskikh Ivan Grigorievich - Hero of the Soviet Union
Donskikh Ivan Grigorievich. Born in 1917 in the village of Ust-Mosikha, Rebrikhinsky District, Altai Territory, in a peasant family. In the Red Army since 1939, the commander of the mortar regiment battalion, senior lieutenant Donskikh, showed courage and heroism in the battles for expanding the bridgehead on the river Oder March 2-5, 1945 in the area of the village of Vogelsang (Germany). Suppressing the enemy's fire system, he ensured the offensive of rifle subunits. Repulsed 13 enemy counterattacks, twice called fire on himself. By the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of May 31, 1945 he was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union. He died on 12.10.1977, was buried in the city of Maikop.
