Tsessel David Efimovich

From a letter written to us, to his grandchildren: "I met the war in the city of Alytus of the Lithuanian SSR in the 5th tank division. On June 17, our unit went to the border for" exercises "and on June 22 entered the battle. Since the superiority was at that time on the side fascists, we were forced to retreat. At a time when there were few tanks and there were not enough trained tank crews (it takes 5-6 months to train tankers), we left without cars were sent for cars. The same happened with the pilots. I ended up in the 12th reserve tank regiment in Naro-Fominsk. Since the beginning of October, at the formation in the 23rd tank brigade in Kubinka, near Moscow. With this tank brigade, as a reconnaissance on a tank, on a motorcycle I participated in the Moscow battle. Our 23rd tank brigade fought with the 16th army under the command of Marshal K. K. Rokosovsky in the region of Istra. Then some parts of the army and our brigade were transferred to Sukhinichi and further to the Zhizdra river. We fought there until March 1943. In the region of Bryansk forests and in the battles for the village ... We have lost some good comrades. I remember one of them - Pavel Tikhov, he was buried in these places. In the spring of 1943, I was sent to a military school, another comrade was supposed to go, but he was wounded when we were conducting reconnaissance in an armored personnel carrier. In this regard, they sent me to the school. I studied at the 2nd Saratov, and then a self-propelled school, which I graduated in December 1944. In February 1945 we went to the front in the Baltics in the 1047th self-propelled artillery regiment. We fought until the end of the war, we held the fascists in Kuremaa until their surrender. He participated in the reconnaissance searches for the Nazis to bring "languages" who know well about their troops., Fired from a tank cannon and machine guns while defending the bridge over the Neman in Alytus, helped the command of the tank brigade find out where the enemy was. "After the war, he remained in the Baltic States, married Nina Petrovna Kugurakova (born on January 14, 1923), graduated from a pedagogical school and worked at the Tapas school (town of Tapa, Rakvere district of the Estonian SSR) as a mathematics teacher and military commander.Died on October 3, 2005 and was buried here, in Tapa.
