Just turned seventeen, the war began, the most terrible of all the stories of the country. Motto: "Everything for the front! Everything for victory!” found a warm response in the soul of the young man. In August 1942, it was time to take up arms in defence of the Motherland. Drafted into the active army. The troops of the front were preparing to conduct an operation to break the blockade of Leningrad. On January 12, 1943, the troops of the Volkhov and Leningrad fronts went on the offensive. Because of six days of persistent bloody fighting, the blockade of the city was broken. In those battles, Vasily Vadyasov was wounded in the arm. Having broken the siege of Leningrad, the Volkhov front units continued to develop the offensive in the Western and South-Western directions. In one of the battles in February 1944, Vasily Vadyasov was wounded a second time. This time in the leg. He was sent to a hospital in Leningrad, the wound was severe and he was sent to the evacuation hospital in the city of Cherepovets, Vologda region.
