Drafted into the army on November 7, 1941, he was enrolled in the courses of officers of the Gomel Infantry Command School in the city of Taldy Kurgan. On January 1, 1942, he took the military oath. In July 1942 he was released from the school with the rank of foreman. Admitted to the 93rd Infantry Regiment of the 76th Infantry Division of the 1st Belorussian Front. Since Nikolai knew the Kazakh language, he was appointed to command a platoon of Kazakhs. Once he was summoned to a special department of the NKVD: "We order you to learn Magyar, Romanian and German languages immediately." Nicholay was given texts and sent to the front line to agitate the enemy. For courage during campaigning he was awarded the medal "For Military Merit". Has 2 severe and 1 light wounds. For the Kursk-Belgorod operation, in the battles for the liberation of the city of Kovel, he timely provided the company with food and ammunition, when it was on the right bank of the Turya River under enemy fire, which provided the offensive, was awarded the medal "For Courage" on July 10, 1944. In October 1944 year, was seriously wounded in the spine, he was taken by plane to a field hospital in the city of Lublin, after a month of treatment he was sent to a hospital in Moscow, to evacuation hospital 5020. At the end of December 1944, he was transported to Sochi, lay motionless for eight months. He met the end of the Second World War in the same place, was awarded the medal "For Victory over Germany." In August 1945 he was dismissed from the ranks of the Red Army. Order of the Patriotic War II degree of 03/11/1985, Document No. 84. Forty years later, in honor of the anniversary date of the Victory in 1985, the Supreme Soviet of the USSR restored this award. The Order of the Great Patriotic War of the 2nd degree was received by those veterans of the Great Patriotic War who, for various reasons, could not receive the first degree during the hostilities. Thanks to this, almost all the veterans who survived were awarded .
