Rudyak Leonida Savvichna_x000D_ _x000D_ Military service: military medical staff. Rudyak Leonida Savvichna was born in 1922. When the war broke out, Leonida went to the military enlistment office and asked to be sent to the front, as she was working as a nurse and was liable for military service. After receiving a referral to Rostov-on-don, to a hospital, my grandmother saw with her own eyes what German shelling from planes and bombing were like, then she was slightly wounded, and lost several of her friends – young girls-nurses like her. Then she worked for a long time in a hospital in Astrakhan, where severely wounded soldiers were brought there. She had to work two shifts, and she didn't have enough food, clothes, and shoes. It was very difficult to be in a strange city in such conditions, far from the family. When the hospital moved closer to the front line, Leonida Savvichna had to live in dugouts in the woods near Stalingrad in the midst of a historic battle. She said that even at night it was light from the fire of exploding shells, and the roar was simply indescribable! During the war, Leonida Savvichna visited many cities. When her hospital came under the command of the Polish army, she even took part in the liberation of Poland from the Nazis, and received many orders and medals for her services in battle. According to Leonida's stories, she was very scared, she remembered that some images from the war times still stand before her eyes, as if everything was quite recent. This war left marks not only on her body, but also in her soul left a deep indelible mark. During this war, Leonida Savvichna met a beautiful young pilot Viktor Fomich, who later became her husband. They fell in love, but they had to fight in different cities, so they wrote letters to each other. Interestingly, when Viktor asked Leonida Savvichna what city she was in, and this was secret information, she answered something like this:"the First letter of the name of this city is the first letter of my sister's name, the second letter of the name of this city is the first letter of your mother's name... etc."
