The faces of WWII Heroes

Rudnev Petr Petrovich_x000D_ _x000D_ My father, Petr Petrovich Rudnev, a red army soldier born in 1913, was drafted into the red Army in April 1942, in the 1091 rifle regiment of the 324th division in the 16th army. His military path was not long, but, like any soldier, not simple, hard, through blood and sweat on the battlefields. He was a participant in the battles of Moscow. The division in which my father served was on the defensive and covered one of the most important directions of Sukhinichi-Kaluga-Moscow. The fighting took place on the Northern Bank of the Zhizdra river. And in June 1942. he participated in the operation to capture the bridge over the Zhizdra. From July to October 1942. Petr Rudnev participated in the Rzhev - Sychevkaya strategic offensive operation. The red army soldiers of the rifle division in which he fought, slowly, with heavy losses, won back every meter of land. At the cost of their own lives, liberating villages and towns from the German invaders. In his last battle, during the offensive battles near the village of Kholm, Petr Petrovich Rudnev, on December 1, 1942, received a severe shrapnel wound in the left forearm, with damage to the radius. He was saved by the commander, unfortunately, we do not know his name. From my father's story......... there were fierce battles, and we had a great responsibility to hold out as long as possible and move West, not to let the enemy pass to Moscow. There was a battle, the Germans once again tried to break through the defense, shells were bursting all around, it was scary, smoke, fire, the roar of exploding shells, huge craters in the ground appeared one after another, some served as temporary shelter for us soldiers. Machine-gun bursts and machine-gun fire cut down our soldiers. Young girls-nurses ran screaming from this horror, fear and only fear, was read in their eyes. It was impossible to look at these very young children, tears and pain blurred my eyes when I saw it. I am a 29-year-old adult man, I could not see how these girls, who recently came down from school, fell, cut by bullets, and their braids lay on the dirty snow. We, adult men, trying to somehow save them, knocked them down and covered them with our bodies. In those moments, I realized more than ever that they do not belong here, they must live to give birth to a new life. It was a terrible reality... .... And then one of the shells exploded right ten paces away from me and the commander who was next to me. I didn't even have time to realize what was happening, as the commander literally knocked me down and covered me with his body, stunned by the exploding shell, I lost consciousness. When I woke up, after the explosion, at first, I didn't even realize what had happened. I struggled out from under the commander's body and saw that the shell fragments had torn the commander's entire back, while my left arm was broken and part of my back was grazed by shrapnel. At the cost of his own life, the commander shut me down, thereby saving my life. The arm was practically hanging by tendon and leftover skin. There was smoke, the sound of explosions, everything was pitted and snow covered with traces of the blood of dead soldiers lying everywhere. I crawled for a while, trying to see or hear at least one person, but soon I lost consciousness. I don't know how long I lay there, but when I woke up, I saw that I was already being carried on a stretcher, but I lost consciousness again. Once again, I woke up when I was already in the ambulance train, which was going through Moscow to Gorky. My arm was bandaged, and I had the feeling that it was practically gone. In my head, of course, the thought flashed through my mind, how will I live without a hand, my wife and 2-year-old son were waiting for me at home. It was painful to think that I might become disabled, but I tried not to let this thought occur. From the conversations of the soldiers, I realized that the Germans passed through the occupied positions of the Red Army, which was surrounded, and only by chance that they took me for a dead man, so they did not shoot me, but passed by and returned to their positions. Sometime after the battle, our medical units were able to carry out the remaining survivors, but there were only a few of them. Upon arrival in Gorky, all the wounded were placed in EV. hospital No. 2816. After examining my wound immediately, the doctor made a conclusion: - "Your business is bad, but let's try to save your hand, you have a whole life ahead of you." At the time, I didn't understand what it was about, but I firmly believed that everything would be fine. I remembered the piece of paper on which the prayer was written and which helped me in the most difficult days, on the battlefields, so I kept it in the pocket of my tunic. And from that moment, when I was particularly ill, I read this prayer, remembering my family. » In the hospital, I had a unique operation, when they were able to restore the motor function of the hand, with the transfer of the missing skin, using an incision on the side of the torso. The arm was practically sewn along the body. Unaware of anything, he writes the first letter to his wife, saying that he is in the hospital for treatment after being injured. And as it turned out, earlier she received a notification that Rudnev Petr Petrovich was missing in action. So far, on some sites from reports of irretrievable losses, he is listed among the dead in the Smolensk region. Sychevskiy district, D. Holm. TSAMO. Number of the information source Fund No. 58, inventory number No. 818883, case number No. 1809 Last duty station hq148osbr. Military transfer point Gorky runway. EG 2816. Arrived in part 15.07.1943. In July 1943, the Pope was sent to part number 170 of the Republic of Kazakhstan until December 1943, the Pope served in the protection of military warehouses.18.12.1943 g. the medical Commission of the Gorky GWRK was recognized as fit for non-combat service under article 44 of the first column of the order of N. K. O No. 336-1943. and was commissioned. At the end of 1943, my father returned home. My mother looked at him and was happy that he was home, even if not quite healthy, but alive. How many men were left out there on the battlefields, and he was here? When my mother was washing her tunic, she found in her pocket a folded piece of notebook, soaked in sweat and blood, worn out, but still holding the words of faith, on which was written a prayer. She handed it to my father, and he said," if it wasn't for this prayer, who knows what might have happened... " my mother understood everything, this leaf is still kept in our family as a family heirloom. Many years passed, and my father worked tirelessly in the fields and in the factory. In 1955, the decision of the medical Board, he was declared fit for military service. And in our family, during these post-war years, four more guys were born and the only girl-daughter, this is me. Every year on Victory day, on the day of the great Victory, my father wore a suit with orders and went to a meeting with veterans, laid flowers at the monument to the fallen during the war with tears in his eyes. And in 1985, he was awarded the order of the Patriotic war, First class. Unfortunately, dad did not like to talk about those terrible days of the war, could not watch films about the war without tears, and silently swallowing tears, clenching his fists, said: "There is nothing worse than a war that takes away your most precious thing-your life." And only my insistent desire to hear something more from my father about the war, forced him again and again to return to those terrible days of the war. And he said that we, adult male soldiers, wept when we saw how German planes bombed and shot trains (trains) with civilians, in which mostly old people and women with children were traveling. His eyes were filled with tears at that moment, and the pain and bitterness of what he had seen still lingered in his heart. .... "I close my eyes and see," he said, " a woman, very young, clutching a baby to her breast, drops of blood trickling from her lips, and the baby is almost covered with earth from a shell that exploded nearby. The screams of people running in different directions, crying, a terrible picture was before his eyes. I wanted to run, to protect, to hide, but I had to go further, forward to the West. And we went without sparing ourselves, for those who remained on the battlefields, for those who were waiting for us at home, the closest, the dearest ... " he could not forget the woman holding the baby to her breast. He could not forget the old people, or the open eyes of dead children, nor could he forget the smell of death, even decades later, after this terrible war. That's probably why he loved life so much, worked and lived for his family, for 6 children. Only a fragment the size of a five-kopeck coin, left after the wound under his left shoulder blade, only occasionally reminded of those days. Farther worked until the age of 18, was awarded the title "Veteran of Labor", was repeatedly awarded diplomas and commendations for good work. He was always proud of his 5 sons, who one by one went to serve in the Soviet Army, in different parts of our vast country from the Far East to the Baltic States. We had a large, friendly and strong family. I am proud that I had such a hero father! Unfortunately, my dad is no longer with us, he died on 05.03.1988, but there is his continuation, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. We have a large family, 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. So, one saved life, the Life of my father Rudnev Petr Petrovich, became a continuation of 39 more lives. Life goes on, in us his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. We remember, we are proud!

Ryabov Nikolay Efimovich_x000D_ _x000D_ Ryabov Nikolay Efimovich. Scout. Senior lieutenant. During the great Patriotic War, he performed two feats. For which he was awarded the order of the Red Star. Born in 1909 in the town of Yelabuga, Tatar ASSR. In August 1941, from the Yelabuga GVK, Yelabuga district, Tatar ASSR, he was called up to the 2nd rifle company of the 1174 rifle regiment of the 348th rifle division on the Kalinin Front. Red army soldier Nikolai Ryabov from December 1941 participated in the battles, showed himself bold and determined. When the regiment was temporarily on the defensive, Nikolai Efimovich commanded a group of scouts at the battalion. Always boldly and accurately performed the tasks of the intelligence command. 20.07.1942 year with two red army men went to investigate. While on a reconnaissance mission, I noticed that the enemy was continuously firing machine-gun fire at our defenses from one of the Bunkers. He crawled up to the Bunker, threw grenades at it, destroyed up to 10 Germans and one machine gun. 30.07.1942 during the regiment's offensive on the village of Bolshoe Kosachevo in the Vichugsky district of the Ivanovo region, Nikolai Ryabov acted quickly and boldly. By his personal example, dragging the fighters with him, he was the first to break into the village and organize the defense. During the counterattack of the enemy, having received an order from the battalion commander to correct the fire of the 76 mm battery on the enemy. As a result, his battery destroyed up to 50 Germans and created an opportunity for the remaining group of fighters to get out of the enemy's flank fire. For his bravery and bravery in the battles with the German invaders, the regiment's command presented senior Lieutenant Ryabov to the government award of the Order of the Red Star. At the beginning of 1943, in another battle, Nikolai received a severe shrapnel wound in the lung and knee, which caused him to be discharged. After returning from the war, he recovered for a long time, but the wound was so severe that it was difficult for him to breathe for the rest of his life, especially in the spring. Nikolay Efimovich was assigned a disability of group 1. But despite this, he lived a long and happy life. Before retirement, he worked at a weaving factory as a machine tool Adjuster in Yelabuga, Republic of Tatarstan. He lived to a great old age until 83 years. He raised three sons and one daughter. Nikolai Efimovich himself said nothing about battles and exploits. And when they asked him to tell them something about the war, he would start crying.

Ramazanov Idris Saitovich_x000D_ _x000D_ Ramazanov Idris Saitovich 15.05.1916 was born in the village of Old Yandovka Starokulatkinskiy district of Ulyanovsk region in the family Ramazanova Sait of Abdulayevich and Hadice Ainetdinova. Idris Saitovich started his career as a teenager, following the example of his older brothers. Until 1939, he worked on the collective farm as a tractor driver, driver, and mechanic. Have completed courses of mechanics in the town of Syzran and began working in Srednetereshanskiy MTS (machine tractor station). In 1939, he was called up for active service in the red Army. Participant of the Soviet-Finnish war. The Great Patriotic War finds him in the Western Ukraine in the city of Drohobych. Heavy days of retreat to Moscow, and then the offensive battles of the Volkhov front to Western Ukraine took a lot of strength and health. But not the belief in Victory! "Win! » - this call lived in the soul and supported. Next, the Second Ukrainian front is fighting for Dresden (Germany). Here Idris Saitovich heard the word “Victory”! After the end of the war, he continues to serve in the Voronezh military district. According to him, the most violent were the Bandera, which had to fight after the war. After returning home in 1947, he continued to work on the collective farm. It was difficult for him to talk in detail about the hard-hungry life, about military everyday life in dugouts, basements, trenches, about breakthroughs of encirclements. It was hard for his wounded soul to remember how they were stuck in the swamp for three days and how they spent five days on the roof of a shed occupied by the Nazis, with only a flask of water. It was creepy when Idris Saitovich talked about human suffering. He had seen a lot of them. Therefore, Victory Day is a very important and great holiday for all of us. The characteristic of Ramazanov Idris Saitovich, given by chief of staff Laptev, which refers to his positive and exemplary qualities as a driver, has been preserved: ”Comrade Ramazanov is a technically competent, cultured, disciplined driver." From 1941 to 1946, he was a staff driver for various foreign cars. He was awarded the order of the Patriotic war II degree. Five Ramazanov brothers left the same family for the second world war: The Sultan, Musa, Suleiman, Idris, Ismail, two died, and three of them came back with a Victory. Ramazanov Idris Saitovich died on August 15, 2006 at the age of 90. Four children and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren bear a bright memory of him in a year. May his memory be eternal!

Rymarova Zoya Semenovna_x000D_ _x000D_ Zoya Semenovna Rimeova,( nee Dmitrieva) was born on June 17, 1929 in Krasnogorodsky district, Maizelovo village, Pskov region, Russian. When the war began, she was at school, she was 12 years old. In 1943, when she was 14 years old, she was already part of the intelligence Agency at the place of residence, went to the location of German garrisons, where she changed eggs, butter from German soldiers, for soap and matches. Its purpose was, if possible, to determine the number and armament of the German garrison, etc. The information obtained was transmitted to the agent scout, who directly reported it to the brigade. So, she helped the partisans. In August 1943, she went to the 10th Kalinin partisan brigade, because it began to attract attention from the police. The intelligence commander was her father, Semen Dmitriev. In the brigade, my grandmother went to investigate, but not alone, but in a group of 2-3 people. They accompanied her through forests, swamps, to a certain destination, where they remained to wait for her return. As a girl, it was easier for her to approach the necessary objects, since no one paid special attention to the child. So, she learned the approaches to railway stations, bridges, their security, etc. Sometimes I went to certain people, scouts, in order to get information from them that they had. In order not to arouse suspicion, she pretended to go to the dressmaker or to the shoemaker, while carrying a larger dress or old boots. In difficult situations, sometimes I had to leave under a hail of bullets. She was in the partisan brigade for 10 months. Then, due to the approach of the front line and the expectation of fierce fighting, by order of the headquarters of the partisan movement, all minors from the partisans were sent to the Soviet rear. So, they, children and teenagers, were transported by plane to the rear, in the city of Kalinin. _x000D_ Awarded: Order of the Patriotic War II art. № 3622872; medal to the Partisan of the Patriotic War; medal for the Victory over Germany; badge "Front-Line soldier 1941-1945", and many more commemorative medals.

In the Village the first five (Arkhangelsk) is a memorial of memory of victims in world war II went to the front with a higher l/s 16-17. The name is engraved on the memory Board. Family: wife Rysina Vera Mikhailovna 1914. R. Son Arkady 1938. R. Son Rudolf 1941. R. BATTLE PATH 12.08.1941 18-th echelons departed from Arkhangelsk to the Kestenga area on the Sorokskaya-Obozerskaya railway line under construction. The transfer of the division is notable for the fact that this branch has not yet been put into operation, only the rolling stock of railway workers moved along it to the echelons of the division. Arrived at Loukhi station 12.08.1941 and immediately entered the battle West of the station: we can say that the arrival of this division saved from the capture of the station and, accordingly, from the blockade of the Kirov railway in this section. The 147th separate reconnaissance battalion went straight from the wheels to the front line and stopped the enemy's advance. 13.08.1941 deployed battalions of the 426th rifle regiment, 14.08. 1941 the division headquarters arrived, and on 15.08.1941 the division commander was killed in an air RAID. The division pushed the enemy forces back, and eventually stabilized the front line 40 kilometers West of Loukhi by November 1941. On the night of 31.10.1941 to 01.11.1941, after three hours of artillery preparation, German and Finnish units launched an offensive, hitting the junction of the 426th and 611th regiments, but all attacks were repulsed. In early November 1941 the German command launched an offensive operation in the direction of Kesteng on the Northern Bank of Top Lake (Karelo-Finnish ASSR), Loukhi station (South-West of Kandalaksha), aiming to cut the Murmansk — Leningrad railway. The offensive was of operational importance, since by capturing the Loukhi station, the enemy would have deprived our country of railway communication with Murmansk via Kandalaksha and Arkhangelsk. This could have created great difficulties in providing our troops and the Northern Fleet with everything they needed, and in communicating the Soviet Union with the outside world through the North. Great importance was attached to the enemy surprise. This is evidenced by the fact that the units intended for the offensive in the Kestenga area were concentrated only a few days before the offensive began. By 05.11.1941, the enemy had managed to encircle the 426th rifle regiment with superior forces, cutting off the supply routes for ammunition and food. The regiment fought in the encirclement until 09.11.1941, and left the encirclement, losing almost all the materiel. Also, the division headquarters was surrounded. By the end of November 1941, the division had no more than 3,000 men left in the ranks of 17,000 personnel. The bloodless division was taken out for re-formation.

Rakityanskiy Nikolay Fedorovich_x000D_ _x000D_ Rank: Corporal_x000D_ Branch of the troops: Artillery _x000D_ Division: 358th rifle Leningrad-Khinganskaya Red Banner order of Suvorov division according to the memories of my father Rakityanskiy Nikolai Fedorovich, he also could not wait to go to the front, to fight the enemy. He was only 16 years old when, after the battle of Kursk, he came to the military enlistment office as a volunteer. This is how he remembered it: "Before I got to the front, when the Germans were in our area, we had to work with them to break the ice on the river, to carry huge blocks of ice on a cart. The work was hard, my hands, neck, face were stiff, and my whole body ached. It was easy to get pneumonia and die. And, most importantly, I was angry that I had to work for the Germans. I ran away from this to the front. Before I went to war, I was determined, like other boys, and I dreamed of romance. Later, when I experienced the cold, the fear and the danger, the roar and the howl, I felt a growing desire in me that this grinding, roaring and howling, death and stench, would soon stop once and for all. I returned home with the joy of the fact that, although I was seriously wounded-in the chest through, but did not die! » It was mentioned above that the troops of the 1st Ukrainian front joined the troops of the Belarusian front. The roads of my grandfather Stepa and father Kolya converged. Naturally, they could hardly meet, although they served side by side and did one thing in common. My father served on the 3rd Belorussian and Baltic fronts as a corporal, first as a sniper, then as a submachine gunner, and later as a scout in the commander's personal guard. He remembered that: "Was it scary in the trenches? Of course, even as! Especially when "Katyusha" entered the battle. You sit in the dark, the darkness is impenetrable, where your own, where others-it is not clear, and suddenly over your head with a howl sweep missiles "Katyusha". It feels like every shell is flying right at you. And you know it's high above you, but it's still scary, you can't move your legs or your arms. But you need to get out of the trench and run forward while the artillery preparation lasts." Dad was shot twice. The first shard broke through his Shoe and sank into the foot of his right foot. An orderly helped him cut the Shoe and the splinter off and bandaged his leg. After this slight injury, after lying in the hospital for several months, the Pope was back in the ranks. The second time, he was hit much more seriously: in the chest through and through. With this chest wound, my father lay in a hospital bed until the end of the war. The Pope complained that "I did not have time to perform any feat, and I did not kill a single German, but I smelled gunpowder, as they say, and got injured." But the Motherland marked the participation of young men like my father in the war differently. Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of may 9, 1947 my father, Rakityanskiy Nikolay Fedorovich, was awarded the medal "For Victory over Germany in the great Patriotic War 1941 - 1945" In 1985 decree of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR in commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the Victory of Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. he was also awarded the Order of Patriotic War II degree. My father was an exceptionally intelligent, educated man. He could play the balalaika and recited poems and fables perfectly. I loved A. Twardowski very much, I knew his " Vassili Tyorkin” by heart. My father was a Jack-of-all-trades and an exceptionally humble man.

Ryabokon (Khrabrova) Olga Ivanovna_x000D_ _x000D_ A simple girl Olga in 1939 graduated from the Pskov paramedic midwifery school and in 1940 already worked in a hospital. In the early morning of June 22, 1941, the war disturbed the peaceful sleep of the Motherland for many years. A deadly, soulless, treacherous war forever changed the fate of millions of people and its fate. On June 23, 1941, Olga Khrabrova, with the rank of "foreman", was called up to the ranks of the Workers 'and Peasants' red Army, where she became a nurse at the field mobile hospital No. 4315 of the NKO. Military-sanitary trains, making their way from the "boilers", the hottest places on the front line, took out a huge number of wounded soldiers. With other such young nurses, my grandmother helped to receive wounded red army soldiers at the stations. For days, along with doctors, nurses stood at operating tables. Often ambulance trains were shelled and bombed. My grandmother recalled how after a heavy sleepless night, she rested... she sat with her back pressed against the pillow. Suddenly, German planes flew in and the shelling started. My grandmother had barely time to get up from her seat when the pillow shattered into feathers and a bullet hit her. My grandmother was only seconds away from death. Everything was mixed up in dust and smoke. When the smoke cleared a little, nurses ran to the screams and moans, looking for survivors and trying to save the wounded. In 1945, she was demobilized, but on the instructions of the hospital command, she was sent by a senior nurse to a Sanatorium of the Highest Command staff in Landeck (Baden-württemberg, Germany). In that sanatorium in Landeck, my grandmother, Olga Ivanovna Khrabrova, and my grandfather, a pilot, Junior Lieutenant Alexey Ryabokon, who was recovering from injuries sustained as a result of a hard landing of a downed plane, met and fell in love with each other. In 1947, they got married and went to their grandfather's new place of service in Tbilisi. Where, in 1948, a happy young couple had a daughter, Agnes, my mother. After his grandfather was dismissed to the reserve, they moved to the city of Baku, where since 1949 he has been serving in the MGB in the 17th police Department of Ordzhonikidze district, as the head of the passport office. It wasn't possible to live a long, happy life and die in one day... In 1955, Alexey Ryabokon died of an illness caused by a war injury. From 1952 to 1979, my grandmother worked at The Bina airport in Baku in the regulatory Bureau. She was highly respected by her colleagues as the best employee and veteran of the Great Patriotic War. After the death of my grandfather, my grandmother lived a long 34 years, preserving love and loyalty to only one person, her Alyosha. She did not like to talk about what happened during the war years, and did not consider what she did in the war a feat. And she showed her medals only when she was strongly asked to do so. She said that she holds the awards in her hands and asks for forgiveness from those whom she did not save.

George Ivanovich Ryazantsev_x000D_ _x000D_ Title: Foreman of the armed forces: Armored and mechanized troops was Born on January 8, 1922 in the village of Makhovoy Prival in the Bolsherechensky district of the Omsk region. Graduated from six classes. Before the war, he worked as a tractor driver on the collective farm "Zavety Ilyicha". On September 15, 1939, he was drafted into the red Army in the regimental school of a tank unit. In 1941, he was assigned to the 427th tank regiment as a Sergeant major. He was injured. He took part in the battles for Brest. After the war, he continued to work as a tractor driver on the collective farm "Zavety Ilyicha". Awarded the red Star "For courage", "For defense of Leningrad", "For Victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic war" (20-, 25-, 50-anniversary of great Victory). Georgy Ivanovich Ryazantsev was drafted into the army in 1939. He joined the tank forces, graduated from the regimental school of the tank school, and served in the 192nd unit of the 427th Siberian tank regiment. The war found him there. Sergeant Riazantsev went to travel on his T-34 on its roads, comprehending to the smallest subtleties the specialty of a mechanic-driver of medium tanks. "I think the T-34 tanks won the war. They are like pike, nimble, everywhere passed without much difficulty. You can't deny them stamina, speed, and strength. We won a lot of battles and attacks on our T-34s, plowed countless hectares of land - after the war... " from Kokchetav, part was transferred to Podolsk, then-towards the Dnieper. Your order here and get the tanker Ryazantsev. For the capture of the Dnieper. He was wounded and was in the hospital. "But alive... But our loader Kolya Kichigin, tank commander Ivan Starostin was not lucky - they were killed. At different times. And major Zinoviev was killed. And many of our brother tankers were killed on the battlefields. It was a long road to Germany..."The heaviest battle took place in the area of Frankfurt am Oder. Georgy Ivanovich remembered him with a special solemnity and pain: "We came to the Oder in April of' 45. At night. There are countless forces on both sides. Order: only forward! The river is not very wide, but stormy, mountainous. The current frightens with power, foreshadowing trouble. And then the savvy of our commanders came to the rescue: "Illuminate the opposite shore with searchlights! Proceed to the crossing!" Tanks roared, guns thundered, and everyone jumped into the water. Before our eyes, 8-10 cars immediately went to the bottom, the rest crossed. And a bloody battle ensued on the enemy's shore. Our helmets couldn't protect us from the roar, and many of us were permanently deafened by the twenty-four-hour attack... Then they moved on to Potsdam, remembering the fallen in battle, avenging those who will never see the sun again, will not hear the trills of the Nightingale... " a Thousand kilometers separated the tankman Riazantsev from Berlin, when he was severely concussed. The brave soldier lost his speech and hearing, thought he would remain a cripple forever. But his body was strong, and his spirit was hardy. In 1946, he returned home from the hospital, then went to raise virgin land, and later - to Bashkiria. On his tank, he plowed, sowed, harrowed the land, removing only the tower from it, then moved to a tractor. He started a family and had three daughters. They gave grandchildren (six), grandchildren-great-grandchildren (eleven). There is no longer a soldier of the great Patriotic war, but his family continues.
