Mikhail Andreyevich Marchuk (1906-1971) distinguished himself during the liberation of Lithuanian SSR. At night from the 5th to 6th of October, 1944, two tanks, one of which was under command of Marchuk, with landing party on the armor, broke behind the enemy's lines near the town of Kelmė and captured an important bridge across the Krazante river.
