In one of the battles, Lieutenant Zhelonkin and his unit destroyed a large German force. For this feat he was awarded the "Order of Alexander Nevsky", which was presented after the 30th anniversary of Victory, because they considered him dead. After the war he lived in the village of Morki, worked as a mathematics teacher.
