Demyan Tukoev was born in 1919 in the village of Inya, Shebalinsky district of the Republic of Mountainous Altai. He was called to the front in September 1941 by Krasnogorsk District Military Committee of Altai Territory. He served in 1254th and 143rd shooting regiments, fought at the Volkhov and Leningrad fronts. He was awarded the Order of the Red Star, the Order of the Patriotic War of 1 and 2 degrees, medals "For the Defence of Leningrad", "For the Victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945".
