Ivan Pavlovich Avdeev (1910-1978) was called up to the front in 1941. He served as a machine-gunner of the 107th Guards Rifle Regiment, 34th Guards Yenakiievo Rifle Division, 4th Guards Army, 3rd Ukrainian Front. In January 1945, being with a group of soldiers in a house surrounded by the enemy at Banhida station (Hungary), he participated in repelling numerous enemy counterattacks.
