Karlyaev Konstantin Danilovich
From October 1932 to January 2, 1934, Konstantin Danilovich Karlyaev served as a cavalryman in the 7th Cavalry regiment in Transbaikalia. In 1939, he graduated from the 5-month courses of the Khvalyn school of chauffer (now known as “drivers”) of the "Soyuzsovkhoztrans" of the People's Commissariat of the USSR. Before the Great Patriotic War, he worked as a driver. On June 25, 1941, he went to the frontline. He fought in the 29th independant motor transport company of fuel supply of the 5th guards’ mechanized Zimovnikovsky order of Kutuzov and Alexander Nevsky corps as a senior driver. The 5th guards mechanized Zimovnikovsky corps, in which my great-grandfather served, was first welcomed into battle during the Soviet counteroffensive at Stalingrad, where, as part of the 2nd guards’ army, it participated in the defeat of the Gotha unblocking group, which was rushing to help the surrounded 330-thousand army of Field Marshal Paulus. In 1943, during the battle of Kursk, the corps fought bravely as part of the 5th guards tank army, participating in the famous tank battle of Prokhorovka and in the Belgorod-Kharkiv operation. My great-grandfather took part in battles near Stalingrad, Kursk, Belgorod, Kharkov. He brought fuel to the tanks in a semi-truck. From July 17, 1944 to May 17, 1946, he served in the 212 regiment of the NKVD of the USSR as an ordinary rifleman. He participated in the liquidation of Polish underground anti-Soviet nationalist armed groups in Western Belarus.
