Vladimir Kolomytsev

Vladimir Kolomytsev was born on July 12, 1922 in Livny, Oryol Region. He entered secondary school in 1930 and graduated in 1940. In the same year, he entered the Voronezh Institute of Civil Engineering (VISI). The Institute was renamed to the Voronezh Aviation Institute in 1941. It prepared engineers in engine and aircraft construction. The Institute together with one of the military factories was evacuated to the city of Tashkent In October 1941. For students studying at the aviation Institute, a "reservation" from conscription was extended. But Vladimir Kolomytsev and other students applied to join the Red Army voluntarily. They were drafted into the army on May 23, 1942, and enrolled as cadets in the Tashkent Infantry School named after Lenin, in the training battalion of 82-mm mortars. He graduated from the school with the rank of Lieutenant, majoring as a leader of a mortar platoon. After graduating from school in December 1942, he was sent to the position of a leader of a mortar platoon of 82 mm mortars in the 54th Reserve Rifle Brigade of the Central Asian Military District. In the reserve regiment, he was engaged in training the commanders of mortar crews. He was assigned to the command of the 1st Baltic Front on February 2, 1944. He was appointed leader of a mortar platoon of 82-mm mortars of the 164th Vitebsk Red Banner Rifle Division of the 4th Shock Army of the 1st Baltic Front on February 10, 1944. He took part in the crossing of the Venta River in Latvia on November 4, 1944. During his service on the 1st Baltic Front, he participated in the fighting to defeat the encircled German group in Courland, liberated cities and towns in Lithuania and Latvia (Telschai, Siauliai, Bauska, ietsava). He ended the war in the Baltic States. The 164th Vitebsk Red bBanner Rifle Division was relocated from the Baltic States to the city of Chkalov (Orenburg) at the end of 1945. He demobilized on February 11, 1946. Awarded the Order of the Red Star and medals For the Victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. He was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War 2nd degree in 1985 in honor of the 40th anniversary of the Victory. He died on October 17, 2005.
