Meshkov Ivan Afanasevich. Born in Kupai in 1923, Mishkinsky district, Kurgan region. Drafted into the army from the 10th grade of the Mishkinsky secondary school on 16.02.42. He was a cadet at the school of junior aviation specialists in Chelyabinsk. From July to August 1942 he was a cadet of the Kamyshlovsky infantry school of the Sverdlovsk region. In August 1942 he served as machine gunner of the Rifle Regiment No.163 of the Army of the Volkhov front No.54. He was wounded in the first battle in the arm near the Mga station of the Leningrad region. He treated in the hospital Toksovo station, Leningrad Region. From November 1942 to August 1943 he served as a radio operator of the Marine Rifle Brigade No.73 on the Sinyavino hills.
