Native of Salsk town, artist A. N. Gordeev walked the roads of war from 1941 to 1945. He participated in the Battles near Moscow, on Kursk Bulge, crossed the Dnieper, took part in the Battles of the Korsun-Shevchenkovsky Offensive Operation. Since May 1944 he fought as part of the anti-aircraft artillery division of the High Command Reserve where he participated in the Battles of the Jassy-Kishinev Operation, liberated Hungary and Austria.
