Sergeant Elantsev Grigory Petrovich. Photo taken near Leningrad.
It was announced that a photographer had arrived from Leningrad, and whoever wanted to be photographed walked in turns about 500 meters along the clearing: there was a photographer working in a log cabin like ours. He was alone, in a military uniform. The guys took pictures, came, then I went. I came back to the dugouts - there were fresh shell-holes. The guys said that the Germans were active, there was no infantry in front, the battalion commander ordered the telephone operator Panin to take a spare phone, extend the line communication to the earth-and-timber emplacement and report to the observation post what was happening in front of him. Misha went away and was sitting. A mine flew right into his artillery emplacement, he was contused and was immediately sent to the hospital.
