In June 1943 when Valentina Grigorievna was 19 years old, she was sent to Moscow to snipers school. She studied for 8 months and was sent to 3rd Belorussian Front to town of Orsha as a sniper. She went through Belorussia, Lithuania, East Prussia, Czechoslovakia, Poland. She received two concussions.
