Dementiev Andrey Alexandrovich Hero of the Soviet Union

Andrey Alexandrovich Dementiev was born on May 10, 1917 in the village of Dolgom now Veidelevsky district in a peasant family. In 1938 he was conscripted into the Red Army, where he completed a year later the course for junior lieutenants. He was especially distinguished during the Berlin operation and the storming of Berlin. By the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of May 15, 1946, for skilful management of the division, courage and heroism shown in the Berlin operation, Dementiev Andrey Alexandrovich was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star Medal.
