Vakarin Izot Antonovich_x000D_ _x000D_ Vakarin Izot Antonovich was born on September 14, 1911 in the village of Peski, now Petrovsk-Zabaikalsky district of the Chita region in a peasant family. After finishing primary school, he worked in his village. In 1932 – 1933, he served in the Red Army. In the active army - since January 1942. He fought on the Kalinin, 1st Baltic, Western, and 3rd Belorussian fronts. Four times wounded, three of them seriously. As part of the 22nd army, he participated in the Rzhev-Vyazma strategic offensive operation (January 8-April 20, 1942), as part of the 39th army – in the 2nd Rzhev-Sychevsky strategic offensive operation "Mars" (November 25 – December 20, 1942). In the autumn of 1943, during the Soviet offensive in the Smolensk region (Smolensk strategic operation), the German command took all measures to keep Smolensk as a strategically important stronghold. Units of the 43rd army were assigned the task of crossing the Kasplya river and capturing the city of Demidov during the Dukhovshchinsky-Demidov operation. After hard fighting, the 262nd rifle division made its way to Demidov. On September 21, 1943, I. A. Vakarin's company stormed into the city in pursuit of the enemy. By evening, it had gained a foothold on the Western edge of the city. At night, the Germans attacked the company's positions with superior forces, reaching its trenches. In a hand-to-hand fight, the company commander destroyed 9 fascists with grenades and machine gun fire. In total, in this battle, the company destroyed up to 60 Nazis, holding their positions. On September 22, the city of Demidov was completely cleared of the enemy. The offensive continued, the company was fierce fighting for the liberation of the villages Setence, Hogan, Subaki, Sapci, Rudnyansky district of Smolensk region. In the battle of October 3, 1943 for the village of Saptsy, I. A. Vakarin and his men made a bold maneuver, occupied the village and held it for a day, repelling five enemy counterattacks. He was seriously wounded in the spine, but continued to manage the fight. The company repulsed all enemy counterattacks and completed its combat mission. For these battles, I. A. Vakarin was awarded the order of the red banner and presented for the Rank of Hero of the Soviet Union.
