Branch of troops: signal corps. Nikolai Ivanovich Bobkov was born in 1911. His regiment was for six months alocated at the Turkish border from the very beginning of 1941. From 1942 Bobkov was engaged in battles within the 1st Ukrainian front under the command of General of the army Nikolai Fedorovich Vatutin. After Vatutin passed away on April 15, 1944, Nikolai Ivanovich Bobkov was transferred to the 1st Belorussian front that was under the command of Marshal of the Soviet Union Georgy Zhukov. Took part in Berlin`s liberation in 1945. During the battles of WWII he was awarded with medals and orders: Order of the Patriotic War 1st degree, medal for Bravery, medal for Military Merit, medal for the Liberation of Warsaw, medal for the Capture of Berlin, medal for the Victory over Germany. On January 14, the Troops of the 1st Belorussian front, despite bad weather conditions that precluded the use of aviation, with the support of massive artillery strikes, went on the succesful offensive on two bridgeheads on the West Bank of the Visla, South of Warsaw, and made it through a strong, deeply echeloned enemy defense. During three days of offensive battles, the front troops advancing on two bridgeheads, joined up and advanced up to 60 kilometers, extending the breakthrough to 120 kilometers along the front. During the offensive, our troops captured the strong German defense strongholds of Vark, Grujec, Kozenice, Soletc, Zvolen, Bialobrzhegi, Yedlinsk, Ilzha, and also occupied more than 1,300 other localities.
