The faces of WWII Heroes

Grachev Viktor Vladimirovich (01/19/1924-10/26/2012) - veteran of the great Patriotic war, guard corporal, gunner of the company of machine gunners. He was born and lived all his life in Sadovoe village (formerly Golodaevka) Novospassky district of Ulyanovsk region. During the Great Patriotic war in August 1942, at the age of eighteen, he was drafted into the army. First, he was sent to Morshansk town, Penza region, to the machine-gun and mortar school for the course of a young fighter. When the exercises were held, he was sent to Voronezh region, where the 4th Shock army was being formed. In May 1943, my grandfather, as part of the 202nd rifle regiment of the 68th guards division, was sent to Kursk. In July 1943, additional army forces were needed on the Kursk Bulge, and their regiment was transferred there. After the defeat of the Germans on the Kursk Bulge, Red army drove German troops to the Dnieper. He received his first baptism in fire on August 25, 1943 in Mikhaylovka village, Poltava region. After that, he was sent to Tambov infantry school, where he was appointed as the head of the ammunition depot. In Tambov, my grandfather met the long-awaited Victory. He continued to serve in the army until October 1945. He returned to his native village and worked as a math teacher at Sadovskaya school in Novospassky district of Ulyanovsk region for 40 years. My Grandfather willingly told about historical events of wartime, remembered all the dates, where and when, in what military operations he participated, but did not like to talk about the experienced emotions and impressions, about his exploits and awards. And only once, on the last victory Day of His life, he said that those who say that war is not terrible do not know anything about war.

Since 1946 he worked as the head of a livestock farm. Ivan Mikhailovich Gromozov was an honest and conscientious worker. Thanks to his work, the farm of the kolkhoz grew stronger every year. Kolkhozniks gave Ivan Mikhailovich great authority. Yakov Nikitovich Gabov Branch of service: army, air force (except naval aviation), the coast guard, the troops of the NKVD, border troops. Division: 150th rifle division (1st formation). Yakov Nikitovich Gabov went through the entire war and ended it on the Western front with the rank of senior Lieutenant. But he was drafted to the front in very beginning of Great Patriotic war, on June 22, 1941. He was wounded three times, and showed bravery and bravery in battle. As a senior political officer of the 4th Separate Rifle battalion of the 150th Rifle brigade, he raised and strengthened the spirit of the soldiers in every possible way. He especially distinguished himself in the battles near the village of Khlepen in Smolensk region, where, after losing battles, in 1942, the fascists strengthened themselves on the steep Bank of the Vazuza river. For three days our 148th and 150th brigades tried in vain to dislodge the enemy from the village, suffering serious losses. Then Ilya Mikhailovich Podberezin, the commander of the 150th brigade, suggested a diversionary maneuver: on the night of November 29, 1942, two groups of fighters attacked the German bunker from the East and West, thereby causing fire on themselves. And at this time, the main capture group of 47 soldiers of Lieutenant Dorofeenko and 12 volunteers of the assistant commander Yakov Gabov made their way, under cover of darkness to the Khlepen Church captured by the Nazis and knocked them out of it. Soldiers under the command of Yakov Gabov blocked the entrance to the Church with bricks and defended it for 36 hours, despite heavy fire from the Nazis and their use of smoke bombs. The Church was defended, and at dawn on December 1, our soldiers occupied the village of Khlepen. An important bridgehead of the fascists with numerous bunkers ceased to exist. On February 14, 1943 Yakov Nikitich Gabov was awarded the order of Patriotic war of 1 degree for the operation near Chlepen. Here, at the front, there was another happy event - he met his future wife Nina Danilovna Pisachkina, who was the typist of the 150th division. In February, the young couple got a vacation for a few days and went to Moscow, where they got married. Then a bit later, Nina, was sent from the front to Moscow to her parents because of her pregnancy. After the fighting in the Rzhev-Vyazma direction, the brigades were re-formed. On October 10, 1943, Yakov Gabov was awarded the order of the red Star. Having become a commander, he skillfully trained agitators and editors of combat leaflets to strengthen the mood of the fighters before crossing the Dnieper. Yakov Nikitich directly carried out all the political and mass work in the divisions himself. During the crossing of the Dnieper, he was among the soldiers in the most dangerous areas, setting an example of courage and bravery to the privates. It also helped to avoid significant losses. Then he was already in the rank of senior Lieutenant of the 594th Rifle regiment of the 207th Rifle division of the Western front. Yakov Nikitovich liberated Prague, and after the war, having managed to see his daughter Nina, who was born in Moscow, soon left for work in the Baltic States. There Yakov Nikitich taught history at a school in Riga and later became its Director. Unfortunately, the marriage with Nina Danilovna did not survive, and she raised her daughter alone. In 1965, daughter Nina married Igor Raulevich, grandson of the famous Kazakh writer Sabir Sharipov and son of another veteran of the great Patriotic war - Raul Sabirovich. Yakov Nikitovich's granddaughter, Valeria, was born in this marriage. Traditionally, on Victory day, veterans of the 150th rifle division gathered in Moscow, near Khlepn, in Karmanovo and Sychevka, in the places of fierce battles during the great Patriotic war. They also gathered together in Riga, and even went to the village to visit Yuri Gagarin's parents.

Rank: Red army soldier. Branch of service: land forces, air force (except marine aviation), the coast guard, the troops of the NKVD, border troops. Division: 338th rifle division (1st formation). WINNER: "When they say that the Great Patriotic war went through every family, this is not an exaggeration. My grandfather, grandmother, three great-grandfathers, and their brothers fought in my family. One great-grandfather and one of his sons were killed, all the others, fortunately, returned home. My grandfather, Nikolai Sergeevich Golubev, a native of the village of Ivanisovo in the Pereslavl district, went to the front in 1942, when he reached military age. He served in a reconnaissance company, twice brought the enemy, twice was wounded in the back and arm and was in a military hospital. One spring, he had to spend a whole day in a swamp up to his waist in cold water, where they were driven by the Germans. During the war, my grandfather corresponded with his wife-my grandmother-Maria Dmitrievna. They fought on different fronts, they often lost each other and then found each. Their fate connected them, as they say, from their early years - they were classmates, then fellow students, and were able to get married only after the war in 1950. My grandmother went to the war on the Komsomol ticket from the second year of pedagogical school. She fiished a three-month course on radio operator and served in Yaroslavl as a corporal in the air defense forces of the North-Western front as a radiotelegraph operator. She transmitted reports of enemy aircraft to command posts and anti-aircraft units. She was wounded and awarded the medal for Military merit. Immediately after the end of the war, my grandfather entered the Moscow military school named after the Supreme Soviet, and after graduation he was appointed as an officer to serve in Germany. After coming back from Germany, he served in a unit that built military airfields. Unfortunately, I didn't find my grandfather alive, and I didn't have a chance to ask him about everything. My parents said that he was a captain, a company commander. He, as a veteran of the great Patriotic war, was lucky to participate twice in the parade on Red square. In 1969, , he died at the age of 45 after a serious illness. My grandfather is buried at the war memorial cemetery in the center of Kursk. This city happened to be the last place of his service and the place of my birth – my small homeland. I often look at the photos of my grandmother, her medals, and remember that as a child I heard from her about the war… One of the photos was taken in Germany in 1945 with the inscription on the back: "To Marusya for memory from Nicholay on his return from vacation." The picture shows a very young man, with a jaunty hat on his head. There is pride In all his appearance! A real winner! My dear grandmother is no longer here. And there are so many things I would like to ask her! How often we don't appreciate what we have and start to appreciate it when we lose it. My mother and I often visited my grandfather's older brother, Vasily Sergeevich. He went through the whole war, he was a pilot. After the war, he mastered the civil profession and lived to an old age. What a storyteller he was! Every visit to his house was a special day for me. Vasily Sergeyevich sat on the sofa and started telling stories about how he flew to the forest to the partisans: “Night, flying over the forest to the partisans. I see bonfires below, it means I need to land. But the bonfires could have been lit by the Germans, and it is not clear whom you will land to... I make a circle, fly over the fires again, but I still have to land. What happiness!our guys!" And now imagine my state when recently I read on the website" Feat of the people” in the link about award documents: “On behalf of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet to award Golubev Vasily Sergeevich the medal "for bravery" for a bold night flight. Despite the fire of anti-aircraft artillery, delivered to the target six paratroopers-bombers." I also found about my grandfather: "Scout platoon of foot reconnaissance regiment of Red army Golubev Nikolai Sergeevich award the medal “for bravery" for the fact that during the offensive battles under heavy enemy fire continuously provided communication with the right neighbor and carried the wounded commander from the battlefield." It is no accident that my great-grandfather Sergey Akimovich was proud of his sons and their exploits. One son defended the Motherland on earth, the other-in the sky. Now it is our duty to remember the feat of our ancestors, the feat of our people. I remember, I'm proud!

Born in an Russian Orthodox family. On February 13, 1913, he was baptized in the Trinity Cathedral in Stavropol. In 1935, he married and moved to the city of Bataysk for permanent residence. Eugene and his wife Vera, on the purchased land plot, on their own, built a stuffed house (reeds and clay), consisting of a corridor and 2 rooms with stove heating. Later, also on their own, the couple built an Adobe barn. The Gnilovsky house was equipped with electricity and radio communication. A well has been dug in the yard to collect water. In addition, the couple got a farm: a cow and 15 rabbits in several cages, which were made by the owner himself. Eugene had a good job in a building company located in Zheleznodorozhny district in Rostov-on-don, and his wife Vera was a housewife. In June 1941, the radio announced about the attack by fascist invaders on the borders of the USSR and the beginning of the war. Just the next day, a "horseman" rode through the streets of the town of Bataisk on a horse and delivered summonses to every house about the must to come to the city military enlistment office for further direction to the front. For about a month, initial military training was conducted for the entire male population of Bataysk town in the town Park. Men were trained to handle weapons, shoot targets, and march. Defenders of the Motherland were placed on a train, in freight wagons, popularly called "calves". And the train moved to the front. Around the beginning of October 1941, the Gnilovsky family received a notification that Yevgeny Mikhailovich Gnilovsky had gone missing on September 17, 1941. In accordance with the data of Control on account of the lost and missing privates and sergeant stuff of the Ministry of the Armed forces of the USSR, as well as the data of 221 Separate rifle Suvorov order battalion on August 26, 1946, stated that accordion to the credentials of 941 riffle Suvorov order regiment, there is no connection near Moscow with the private Gnilovsky Evgeny Mikhailovich on 19 July 1941; but since September 17, 1941 he was listed as missing and wanted. According to the data of the military Commissariat of Leningrad region for the city of Vyborg and the Vyborg district dated December 20, 2013, Gnilovsky Evgeny Mikhailovich, born in 1913, served in the 265 rifle division, part of the 941 rifle regiment, which in July-September 1941 fought in the Vyborg district near the settlements of Antrea, Sairala (now Kamennogorsk urban settlement). It is likely That Gnilovsky Yevgeny Mikhailovich went missing in one of the battles in the area. Later, his wife Vera, throughout her life, tried to find information about her husband, with the hope of at least finding a grave for bow.

Vladimir Kornilovich Belomestnykh was born on July 14 (new style – 27), 1913 in the village of Bargaday (now-Ziminsky district of the Irkutsk region) in a peasant family. He graduated from Novo-Udinsk seven-year school. His parents had many children - besides Vladimir, there were 14 more. The 106th Beyond-The-Baikal rifle division was formed from the local border guards. Vladimir Kornilovich served within the 12th sapper battalion in a platoon of miners. The experience of combat crossings was useful to him when crossing the Dnieper by our troops. Belomestnykh's boat was the third. The first two boats were machine-gunned by the Nazis. The men leaned desperately on their oars. But now it's time to land the troops. - Come on, follow me! the Sergeant-Major ordered, and was the first to plunge into the icy water. The fight on the beach was short and fierce. During this night and using its darkness as a cover Sergeant-Major Belomestny on his humble boat managed to transport 150 common soldiers under the hurricane fire of the enemy. He made 12 such routes till the morning light came. For almost a day, he was on the verge of death. In hand-to-hand combat, the group captured an enemy machine gun and two medium-caliber guns. Many of the fighters were killed, but the "fire bridgehead" was held. On the conquered bridgehead, Sergeant-Major V. K. Belomestny hoisted a flag indicating – “Dpieper belongs to us!”. For his courage and bravery during the crossing of the Dnieper, on October 30, 1943, he was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union. In January 1945, Belomestny was seriously wounded and concussed, frostbite on his feet, and narrowly escaped gas gangrene. The hero completed his front-line career on the Austrian soil. He was twice concussed and twice wounded, as a result of which he was deaf and dumb for 18 days. June 24, 1945 Hero of the Soviet Union V. K. Belomestny took part in the Victory parade on Moscow's Red square. He began to beat the enemy as a private, and ended the war in the reserve of junior commanders. The war claimed the lives of six of Vladimir's brothers. All nine sons of his mother Darya Fyodorovna were called up to the front line and she was waiting for them along with the victory, and could not sleep at night. But war takes its toll. Six brothers of Belomestny parished during the battles. Each funeral was a hard blow to the mother's heart. But the Siberian woman endured everything. Vladimir Kornilovich was discharged in 1946 and returned to Solovievsk - to the places that became his native land. He worked as the head of the mining sector, deputy chief engineer for safety, head of dredge No. 67 of the Solovyevsky mine. Then he went to Yakutia there he retired. After completing journalism courses, in 1965-1990 he worked as a tour guide at a local travel and sightseeing agency. He performed at schools and businesses. He is an honorary citizen of the Lazarevsky district of Sochi. He was awarded the memorial medal of the Krasnodar territory "for outstanding contribution to the development of the Kuban". Vladimir Belomestny passed away on August 08, 2009, and was buried in the cemetery of the village of Dagomys (Sochi).
