On 28 August 1943, near the village of Zhukovo, Dukhovshchinsky District, Smolensk Region, common soldier Solovyov Vasily volunteered to clear the way for his platoon. He broke into an enemy trench, destroyed the units of two machine guns. His comrades went up into the attack, but he opened fire on them from the pillbox, which was almost close to Solovyov.
