Nikolay Yakovlevich Korniliev

Born in 1924 in the village of Shipulino, Epifany district, Tula region. On July 5, 1941 he voluntarily joined the Moscow militia. Graduated from tank school. He fought near Yelnia and Tula, Alexin and Kaluga, took part in the battles near Moscow, Stalingrad, on the Kursk Bulge, stormed Berlin. He was wounded three times. After the war he lived and worked in the city of Donskoy (Tula Region). For many years he headed the council of war and labour veterans of the Donskoy city. He was awarded the Order of the Red Star, the Order of the First class of the Patriotic War, medals. Honoured School Teacher of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic (1981), Honoured Citizen of the Donskoy City (1994).
