MY GRANDFATHER, GODUNOV GRIGORY FILIPPOVICH (1927-1969) volunteered for the front in 1943. He was only 16 years old. Grandfather was born in Suvorovskaya village, Stavropol Territory. He was a signalman in the signal troops. At the end of the war he was concussed. My grandfather reached Berlin, then served in the western group of troops, after which he was demobilized with the rank of sergeant. He returned home only in 1949. We do not know about his awards, because my grandfather handed out all his orders and awards at the station in Mineralnye Vody to street children. At that time there was hunger and awards could be exchanged for food.
