From January 1943 to September 1943 he was a cadet of the Lvov Military Infantry School. Without finishing it, he was sent to the front. From September 1943 to August 1944 he was at the front as the gunner of the gun of the 415th separate anti-tank destroyer battalion, the 184th Duhovitsy rifle division. In August 1944, he was seriously wounded, was in a hospital in Moscow, and upon recovery, he was declared unfit for combat service and sent to the 396th airfield service battalion, which was located in the city of Mogilev, BSSR and until January 1945 was the head of the fire department of the airfield.
