Lebedev Ivan Demidovich

CITY: Lopoukhi village, Ivanovo region DATE OF BIRTH: 09/27/1910 DATE OF DEATH: 01/01/2003 HISTORY: Subdivision: 235th Infantry Division (1st formation) Lebedev Ivan Demidovich was born in 1910 in the village of Lopouhi, Pestyakovsky District, Ivanovo Region. He was married to Klavdia Ivanovna Lebedeva, had 2 daughters before the war, after the war a son was born (my dad). Was drafted into the 235th rifle division (Gorokhovetskie camps) in April-May 1941. Was in the 806th rifle regiment. When the war began, they were sent to the city of Pskov, participated in the battles, then their regiment covered the retreat of the main forces. Themselves were surrounded. The supply of ammunition and food in the encirclement was meager. My grandfather said little about this. They were going to leave the encirclement in the town of Pushkin. But Ivan Demidovich did not reach him, in August 1941. was taken prisoner, he also did not like to talk about it. He was in captivity in Koningsberg, worked at the Kossa paper mill, lived in barracks, had numbers on his clothes (From memoirs). With the advance of Soviet troops, the camp was evacuated to the west. They were freed by American troops. After checking by the KGB services, Ivan Demidovich was sent to the town of Kungur (camp) for logging. He returned home to Verhny Landeh in February 1948. He worked in the fire department. He was very fond of the forest, hunting, fishing. He was a tailor by profession, he knew how to process skins, sew outerwear. By the way, this profession helped him and while he was in captivity, sometimes instead of hard work, he was sent to repair the clothes of prisoners of war. And once, according to the stories of Ivan Demidovich, he sewed a coat for a German woman, the wife of one of the officers who guarded them in the camp. Ivan Demidovich died in 2003.
