My grandfather Smolenchik Mikhail Filippovich is a war and labor veteran, a Komsomol veteran, an honorary pioneer of the city. He was born on December 15, 1915. In June 1942 he was drafted into the army. Mikhail Filippovich served in the Western, Baltic, Second Ukrainian fronts, defended Leningrad. He was wounded five times. He commanded a platoon, company, battalion. For feats of arms in battles, my grandfather was awarded of the Order of the Patriotic War 2nd class, three Orders of the Red Star, seven military medals, including medals “For the Defense of Leningrad”, “For the Victory over Germany”. First Lieutenant Smolenchuk met the Victory Day in Czechoslovak city Lyuberets.
