Photo shows Ivan Sergeevich Altukhov (1924-1944), Hero of the Soviet Union. He was born on October 17, 1924 in village of Zarechenskaya Sloboda, Ranenburgsky district, Ryazan region (now village of Zarechye-Lomovoye, Chaplyginsky district, Lipetsk region). In 1942 he was drafted to army. He liberated Oryol, Kharkov, Kiev, took part in battles in Romania. Ivan Sergeevich Altukhov was rewarded Hero of the Soviet Union for courage demonstrated during crossing of Danube River, capture and holdof bridgehead on its right bank, in December 1944. The award did not find the hero alive. On December 8, 1944, Senior Lieutenant Altukhov died courageously.
