Nikolai Fedorovich Martynov (1918-2001) was taken POW in autumn, 1941. At first he was in field camps in Belarus and Poland, then he was transported to Germany, to political prison. From there Martynov was transferred to Sachsenhausen concentration camp, and then to Buchenwald (he worked in underground factories). In April 1945 prisoners were to be killed. Nikolai Fyodorovich and his comrads escaped from Nazi captivity: at night they jumped out of the cars on the move.
