On July 3, 1943, Alexander Lavrentyevich Bugaev was mobilized into the ranks of the Red Army, in December 1943 he graduated from a military engineering school, more than once he lamented that 3 years of war had already passed, and he did not manage to do anything for his homeland. He was sent to the second Belorussian front and appointed commander of a sapper platoon of the 343rd separate sapper battalion. For the feat, selfless actions during the crossing of the Narew River in Poland, platoon commander Senior Lieutenant A.L. Bugaev by the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of March 24, 1945, he was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union.
