She was born on May 7, 1922 in Babye village, Balakhninsky District. After graduating seven-year school, she entered a medical school. In 1939 she became a nurse. She was drafted to the front in the first days of the war on June 1941 at the age of 19. She served in the 191st medical and sanitary battalion, 4289th infectious diseases hospital. It was a mobile military hospital, the so-called "hospital on wheels", whose task was to remove the wounded from the battlefield, provide first aid and deliver them to the hospital. She served in the Ukraine, near Stalingrad. She was shell-shocked. She ended the military service with the rank of sergeant.
