Andrey Egorovich Kuznechenko was born in 1914 in the Ulyanovsk region, the village of Yazykovo. He was drafted into the Red Army in February 1942 by Molotovsky District Military Commissariat of Kuibyshev (now Samara). Previously, the family name was Kuznechenkov, but during the war it changed and lost the letter "v" at the end. As it was possible to establish from the family archive and the electronic database of the Ministry of Defense, Andrey Kuznechenko went through almost the entire Great Patriotic War, ending it in Berlin. During the war he was repeatedly awarded various orders and medals, including the Order of the Red Star, the Order of Glory 3rd degree, the Order of the Great Patriotic War 1st degree, medals: "For the defense of Stalingrad", "For the capture of Koenigsberg", "For the capture of Berlin", "For Bravery", "For the victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. Andrei Egorovich was also awarded numerous certificates for his participation in combat operations (including those in East Prussia). During the war, A.E. Kuznechenko served as a mortar thrower in the land forces - in the 54th Guards Makeyevka Riflemen Order of Lenin Red Banner Order of Suvorov Division of the 3rd Guards Riflemen Corps. He had military ranks: Sergeant Guards, Senior Sergeant Guards, Guards Officer. In 1944-1945, he served as a commander of the 120-mm mortar battery of the 163rd Guards Rifle Regiment. As it follows from the award sheet dated June 30, 1944, according to which A.E. Kuznechenko was presented to the Order of the Red Star, on August 8, 1943 he was wounded in action.
