Valentin Ivanovich Dobatkin was born on December 8, 1923 in the village of Betino in the Kasimovsky district of the Ryazan region in the family of the Director of a rural school. He finished the 10th grade in Moscow in 1941, from where he was called to the front soon after graduation. He first fought in the rank of private, was sent to Stalingrad. At the end of the battle of Stalingrad, commander of the 62nd army of the Stalingrad front V. I. Chuikov summoned Valentin Dobatkin and two other soldiers - the only ones left alive out of the thousands of men who were first recruited into their brigade - and said that he had no moral right to send them to the West to continue fighting, and that the best reward for them would be a referral to study at the guards mortar and artillery school. Valentin Dobatkin finished the war with the rank of second Lieutenant, was awarded numerous orders, medals and distinctions, including the medals "for military merit", "for the defense of Stalingrad", "for the victory over Germany", the order of the great Patriotic War of the 1st degree", the order of the red star. After the war, V. I. Dobatkin entered the Military Law Academy in Moscow, where he graduated with a gold medal and then served for many years in the military Prosecutor's office.
