After the previous failure of this operation by the People's Commissar of Defense Kliment Voroshilov, who was removed from the post of Commander on the same January 7, Tymoshenko immediately set specific operational missions and their solution. As a result, from February 1940, when the preparation was completed, the assault on the line began and its breakthrough, the city of Vyborg was taken. Thanks to the successful command of Timoshenko, on March 13, 1940, the USSR signed peace with Finland on its own terms. _x000D_ The title of Hero of the Soviet Union (No. 241) with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal to Army Commander 1st Rank Semyon Konstantinovich Timoshenko was awarded on March 21, 1940 for "exemplary performance of command combat missions and displayed courage and heroism." June 28 - July 2, after the occupation of Bessarabia by the troops of the Southern Front (Commander G.K. Zhukov) during the operation against Romania, in 1940, Tymoshenko for the first time since 1914 visited his small homeland, the village of Orman (now Furmanovka) in the Ukrainian Bessarabia, from where he was still a young man and went to the front of the First World War. In his native Furmanovka, the marshal received an enthusiastic welcome from fellow villagers. He had to speak at an impromptu meeting directly from the peasant cart. Tymoshenko spent the rest of the day and all night in contact with numerous relatives. _x000D_ In 1940-1941 Semyon Konstantinovich Timoshenko was People's Commissar of Defense of the USSR (replaced KE Voroshilov in this post). At the post of the People's Commissar of Defense, he carried out a lot of work to improve the combat training of troops, their reorganization, technical re-equipment, training new personnel (required due to a significant increase in the size of the army), which was not fully completed due to the beginning of the Great Patriotic War. Under his leadership, the combat experience of using the Armed Forces gained in the Soviet-Finnish war was generalized and began to be introduced into the practice of training troops and staffs. Decisions were made to form mechanized corps, replace outdated tank and artillery fleets, aviation equipment, mobilize resources, improve the organization and coherence in the work of headquarters, strengthen military discipline, and improve the combat training of troops. Immediately after the outbreak of the Great Patriotic War, on June 23, 1941, he was appointed Chairman of the Headquarters of the High Command. _x000D_ On July 2, 1941, in connection with the catastrophic development of events in the central sector of the Soviet-German front, Semyon Konstantinovich Timoshenko was appointed Commander of the Western Front. On July 10, 1941, he simultaneously headed the High Command of the Western Direction Forces (remained Commander-in-chief until the abolition of the High Command on September 10, 1941). In May 1942, Timoshenko led the Kharkov operation, as a result of which a large group of the Red Army suffered a crushing defeat. As a result of the encirclement near Kharkov, more than 200 thousand soldiers and officers of the Red Army were taken prisoner, which was one of the reasons for the future difficult situation near Stalingrad and in the Caucasus. Tymoshenko himself survived and escaped captivity. In July 1942, Timoshenko was appointed Commander of the Stalingrad Front. Since October 1942 he commanded the troops of the North-Western Front. In this position, he conducted two offensive operations during the implementation of the "Polar Star" plan, the Demyansk offensive and the Old Russian operation. _x000D_ On March 13, Marshal Tymoshenko was removed from his post as Commander of the North-Western Front. From March 1943 until the end of the war, he was a representative of the Supreme Command Headquarters and coordinated the actions of a number of fronts, took part in the development and conduct of certain operations. During the operation to withdraw Romania from the war, as an ally of Germany and taking control of the Romanian oil (Yassko-Chisinau), Tymoshenko was the coordinator of the actions of 2nd and 3rd Ukrainian fronts. The Soviet offensive in Bessarabia and Romania began on August 20, 1944, and four days later the operational encirclement of the Kishinev group of Germans and Romanians was completed. On the night of August 24, 1944, when the pro-German government of Ion Antonescu was overthrown in Bucharest, Romania ceased to be an ally of Germany. _x000D_ After the liberation of Chisinau on August 25, Semyon Konstantinovich telegraphed to JV Stalin: “The first main combat mission you set for 2nd and 3rd Ukrainian fronts has been completed. The German-Romanian troops were defeated, their remnants flee in disarray across the Siret River. The main German Chisinau group is surrounded and destroyed. Observing the skillful leadership of troops on a large scale by Malinovsky and Tolbukhin, I consider it my duty to ask ... for the assignment of the military rank "Marshal of the Soviet Union" to Army Generals Malinovsky and Tolbukhin. " Soon this request from Tymoshenko was granted. _x000D_ At the same time, Tymoshenko visited his native village for the first time since the summer of 1940. Later, S. K. Timoshenko coordinated the actions of the fronts in Hungary and Austria. On the night of September 16, 1944, he received an order from the Supreme Command Headquarters to begin coordinating the actions of 2nd and 4th Ukrainian fronts during the combats for southern Hungary and, later, to the capture of the Hungarian capital Budapest. From July 1941 to February 1945 he was a member of the Headquarters of the Supreme High Command. Dudnik Ivan Kuzmich_x000D_ _x000D_ He graduated with honors from the Omsk combined arms school named after M. V. Frunze (class of 1939) and was invited to the command and teaching staff of the school. In January 1941, he was transferred to the command and teaching staff of the Kuibyshev (now Samara) military infantry school No. 1. In August 1941 (according to other sources – in September) on the basis of the Kuibyshev parachute school trained paratroopers. He had a parachute badge "parachutist Instructor". Ivan Dudnik was a battalion commander of the 332nd Guards rifle regiment of the 104th guards rifle order of Kutuzov II class of the 9th guards army division in the 3rd Ukrainian front under the command of Marshal F. I. Tolbukhin. As part of this regiment, Ivan Dudnik participated in the heaviest battles for the liberation of Hungary (crossing the Raba river, Balaton operation), Austria (storming Vienna) and Czechoslovakia (Prague operation). In the fierce battles for the liberation of Vienna, when crossing the river Traisen, such a story happened. The fascists took up a defensive position at the height and fired at the crossing from all sides. Our men were in great danger - the enemy's self-propelled guns were firing incessantly. The Germans intended to take the height to the left of the already occupied line, but Ivan Dudnik and his men did not allow this to happen. As a battalion commander, he never hid behind the backs of his men. With a group of twenty men, he penetrated to the left flank to draw fire from the main forces of his battalion. The group managed to reach the enemy's left flank unnoticed, using camouflage, and open fire. The Germans did not expect this and were stunned - they were forced to retreat. The self-propelled guns turned back. This made it possible for the main forces of the battalion to Ford the river Traizen and quickly maneuver to reach the borders of the Nazis. For competent, according to the laws of military science, organized actions and victories in offensive battles with the invaders, Ivan Dudnik was presented to the Order of Alexander Nevsky. Crossing the Raba river. Report of the commander of the battalion 332 guards rifle regiment 104 guards rifle order of Kutuzov II degree division 3 of the Ukrainian front Dudnik Ivan Kuzmich (transcript of the manuscript). After breaking through the Shered defensive line, German troops, under the cover of strong rearguards consisting of infantry, machine-gun and machine-gun units, and mainly self-propelled artillery, supported by heavy artillery and heavy mortars, retreated to a pre-prepared defensive line on the Raba river. The defense on the Raba river was well organized and took place mainly on the opposite Bank. On our shore, only small groups of infantry defended themselves, which were combat guards consisting of shooters, machine gunners, machine gunners and snipers. The defensive line on the opposite Bank of the Raba river consisted of three or four lines of solid trenches connected by a well-developed system of communication passages. Of great interest is the construction of trenches with their large depth of up to two to two and a half meters and their improvement. All the trenches were covered with poles and brushwood and adapted for defense. Especially strongly developed was the system of trenches and communication passages on the river Bank, near roads and on the edge of groves. The men of the first rifle battalion who captured these trenches said: "you can't knock a Russian soldier out of these trenches." The terrain of our coast was flat and open. Only on our side there was a dense shrub and young forest growth are rare. The forest and brush made it difficult to observe and direct fire. Twenty or seventy meters from the river on our Bank was an earthen rampart, protecting from spring floods of the river, which was the only shelter from direct fire. The area on the opposite Bank was teeming with shrubs, which, as they moved away from the river, became a large oak forest extending almost close to the settlements of Edwe and Pali. The width of the river reached a hundred meters, there were no fords, the depth of the river six or seven meters from the shore already hid a person. We considered the speed of the river flow on our site to be average. The defense of the opposite (German) Bank of the river was with a well-organized system of weapons-machine-gun, automatic and sniper fire. Every movement of even single fighters on our shore caused a mass of this fire, and insignificant clusters of fighters, signs of observation and command posts were immediately subjected to fire raids by artillery, which already had accurate data for firing. The defense was well reinforced with anti-tank and especially self-propelled artillery. The nomadic tactics of self-propelled guns allowed each self-propelled gun to maneuver fire well. The battalions of the regiment, pursuing the enemy, immediately shot down the German combat guard, captured the river Bank, and the first battalion managed to capture one boat with a capacity of eight or nine people, which, apparently, was being transported by the German combat guard and which they did not have time to destroy. Units of the regiment went to the river Bank, exhausted by insomnia and abnormal nutrition. In the heavy fighting for the village of Shered, where the units suffered significant losses, exhausted by the non-stop eight-day pursuit of the retreating Germans, the soldiers abandoned all equipment except weapons and ammunition. Almost no one has any raincoats or overcoats left. There were no improvised means of transport that could be used for the crossing. There were two stacks of straw, which also one, without linking means, could not be used. In this situation, the units had to fulfill the command order to start crossing the river at 22: 00 hours on March 27, 1945. The first to cross the river was the 1st rifle battalion. The battalion's task was to force and capture the bridgehead, and ensure the regiment's crossing. The battalion was assigned: a platoon of 57 anti-tank guns and a platoon of submachine gunners. Supported the 1/567 MP7 battalion. Before the crossing, only surveillance reconnaissance was conducted. An attempt to explore the opposite Bank in small groups did not give positive results, since no scout managed to reach the opposite Bank. Time did not wait. The desire for relentless pursuit in order to prevent the enemy from gaining a foothold and organizing required urgent forcing. At midnight, the first boat with one machine gun and submachine guns from the 1st rifle company, which was commanded by guard Lieutenant Pavel Sergeevich Yershov, went to the opposite Bank. The same company, by the decision of the battalion commander, was to cross the river first. The first trip of the boat included: one machine gun with calculation and three submachine gunners. Senior group commander of the machine gun guards senior Sergeant Rogov; guards Sergeant Kovalev, guards red army Kondratovich, guards red army Menukhov and machine gunners. This group, as well as the second group of the guards of Junior Lieutenant Konstantin Petrov, as part of the red army guards mursalimov, Solomatin, Tsurkanov and snipers Vasiliev and Papenkov crossed secretly from German observation. The third group, under the command of the guard Lieutenant Kuzin Peter, consisted of six men with a machine gun and ammunition reserves for machine guns and one light machine gun. So secretly and suddenly for the enemy, five boats were ferried ashore. The Germans, apparently, did not expect the crossing that night. They probably thought that we would do a lot of preparatory work, build rafts, prepare a ferry, and so on. But as a result of the stealth and surprise of the crossing, we managed to smuggle two heavy machine guns, four light machine guns, a group of submachine gunners and Riflemen numbering up to forty people unnoticed by the enemy. Thus, on the opposite Bank, unnoticed by the enemy, the entire 1st rifle company was concentrated. Having accumulated at the cliff of the opposite Bank of the river, this group suddenly threw grenades at the first German trench and shot at point-blank range the German infantry. Bursting into the trench, the soldiers quickly began to clear it of the Germans. Great courage, bravery, courage and selflessness were shown by: guards senior Sergeant Rogov, guards Junior Lieutenant Petrov, guards lieutenants Kuzin and Yershov, guards Sergeant Kovalev, guards red army soldiers Vasiliev, Papenkov, Salamatin, Tsurkanov and many others. The actions of the Riflemen and submachine gunners were well supported by the calculations of machine guns and light machine guns, which operated directly in the battle formations of the Riflemen. The Germans figured out the actual crossing only when one after another hand grenades and a mass of bullets from our Bank, the firepower that provided the crossing, fell on their heads. The crossing was provided by all hand and machine guns of the 2nd and 3rd companies,as well as machine guns of the machine-gun company. The signal to open fire for the firepower providing the crossing was the opening of fire by the Germans. In case of failure of the 1st rifle company, a part of the machine guns of the 3rd rifle battalion was ready to support its actions. The 1st rifle company operating in the first trench was supported by 1/567 MP, which suppressed the enemy's firepower in the second trench, and the battalion's mortar company, which covered the right flank of the 1st rifle company from the settlement. The opening of fire by the mortar division and the mortar company was timed to coincide with the RAID on the first trench. Thus, the first trench was partially captured by our infantry for a short distance and then cleared, the second in our direction was suppressed by fire. The third trench with small arms fire in the night shooting did not pose much danger. The first flank of the 1st rifle company operating in the trench was covered by the fire of a mortar company. The left flank was dangerous, and the 346th guards rifle regiment, which even used RS8 guards mortars, was actively engaged at a short distance. This forced the Germans to focus on the direction of the 346th guards rifle regiment, where the Germans were waiting for our crossing to begin.

Danielyan Smbat (Symban) Melikovich_x000D_ _x000D_ Rank: Colonel. Danielyan Smbat (Symban) Melikovich. In the magazine of the Central Committee of the Communist party of Lithuania "Events and time" No. 14, July 1982 (index 76787), an article was published by retired Lieutenant Colonel Dmitry Ryabov "Feat of the Neman" about three military generations of the Danielyan family: grandfather-Colonel, Danielyan Smbat Melikovich, father-Lieutenant Colonel, Danielyan Norayr Sumbatovich, brother-major, Danielyan Sumbat Norayrovich. Here is an excerpt from this article concerning my grandfather.... "I often visit the most beautiful corner-close and dear to the heart of every Alytus. An obelisk with an enlarged order of the Patriotic war is attached to it. On the sides of the obelisk are massive bronze plates with words in Lithuanian and Russian that are etched into the memory: "Glory to the immortal deeds, glory to the fallen heroes! Around eleven blue fir trees symbolizing the feat of soldiers of the 11th guards army who liberated the city. And the original decorative fence. All this is a crown of heroism, a tribute to love and respect for the soldiers of the war. Right next to the obelisk, the graves of the dead. I read their names: "Guards Lieutenant V. Kalinin, private A. Tikhonenko, Colonel S. Danielyan" and dozens of other names. I was particularly interested in Colonel S. Danielyan. I wanted to find out where the front roads brought him to our region, what feat he performed in the name of people's lives on the banks of the Nemunas? The search lasted about three years and was crowned with success: documents were obtained from the archives, meetings were held, exciting conversations with the son and grandson of the Colonel… Soviet power in Baku was proclaimed on the sixth day of the revolutionary coup in Petrograd. On December 16, under the chairmanship of V. I. Lenin, the Council of people's Commissars discussed the situation in Transcaucasia. It was decided to appoint a member of the Central Committee of the RSDLP(b), Chairman of the Baku Council Stepan Georgievich Shaumyan as temporary Extraordinary Commissioner for the Caucasus, until the formation of Soviet power in the region. From Petrograd to Tiflis, where the Caucasian regional Committee of the RSDLP(b) was located, S. A. Ter-Petrosyan (Kamo) delivered a mandate signed by V. I. Lenin to Shaumyan. Going from Baku to Tiflis alone for Shaumyan is a risky business. Comrades called the names of fellow travelers. Someone said: - Sumbat Danielyan is the most suitable candidate. - This, you know, somehow does not fit together: an officer of the tsarist army accompanies the Extraordinary Commissar. He can also escort you to security. The audience laughed, and S. Shaumyan became interested: And who is this fine? - Recently returned from the Turkish front. Originally from the Armenian village of Chardakhly. He is twenty-two years old. He is an energetic and fearless person. One of the first in the army to go over to the side of the revolution. We decided to take a roundabout trip through the high mountains and deep gorges of the lesser Caucasus range. On January 17, 1918, the travelers reached Chardakhly safely. - You are now on Betaking? Twenty versts along mountain paths and gorges. And there are bandits all over the road. "But there is no other route," Shaumyan said. They came up with an idea: they staged a wedding trip. Sumbat Danielyan, a slim, fit and young officer, really looked like a groom. The" planted father "Stepan Shaumyan rode in the midst of the "wedding" motorcade. In those years, the young country of the Soviets from all the suburbs, like cockroaches from the cracks, climbed enemies. In the spring of 1918, the Turks attacked. And a horseman with a sword on a dashing horse flashed by on the banks of Sevan. Sumbat led his cavalry into battle. In one of the fights, he was seriously wounded. Having linked his fate with the red Army, Sumbat Melikovich goes through a glorious path from squadron commander to battalion, and in the pre-war years teaches at military schools in Transcaucasia, in Alma-ATA and Dnepropetrovsk. great Patriotic war. Communist Danielyan goes to the front. He is appointed commander of the 38th separate rifle brigade. This happened near Moscow, during the most difficult days for the capital. The brigade commander has his place in battle. But sometimes the situation develops so that the senior chief, along with the soldiers, goes into the heat of battle. So it was on the near approaches to the capital. Units of the neighboring unit retreated. Kombat Danielyan received an order: to hold the Germans in this area, and then knock them out of defense and wedge into the enemy's battle lines. The first offensive of the brigade's soldiers was unsuccessful. That's when the battalion commander gave the order to take out the Banner. With a group of submachine gunners and Riflemen, he rushed forward. The commander of the Kalinin front, Colonel-General I. S. Konev, presented Danielyan for the award, wrote: "In the battles, the brigade commander personally led the attack of the fighters, showing bravery, perseverance and decisive actions. As a result of this attack, the battle order was executed: the enemy was stopped, knocked out of defense and put to flight. Eight localities were liberated and many trophies were taken. For exemplary performance of a combat mission, for bravery and courage, I present to the award-the order of the red banner." Sumbat Danielyan was awarded the order in which he commanded, and was awarded the honorary title of the guards. War is war. Recently, the brigade commander and his soldiers were honored with a victory near Moscow, and the Sovinformburo reports already reported: "in the area of Mozdok, the soldiers of S. Danielyan's unit repulsed several enemy attacks during the day, destroying seven tanks to two hundred Hitlerites." Some time later, he distinguished himself in the defense of the city of Ordzhonikidze. The soldiers of Danielyan's unit overturned the Nazis with a strong counterattack. In this battle, the commander was twice wounded. He would have left the battlefield after the first wound, but he continued to lead his subordinates, inspiring them to the feat, and remained at his post until he fell from the second wound. He didn't like to spend too much time in hospitals. And soon, his name and deeds were heard in the cities and villages of Belarus and Lithuania. Confidently, he led the guards in the offensive to the West. After the war, the former commander of the 11th guards army, General of the army Hero of the Soviet Union Kuzma Nikitovich Galiysky will write the following lines about the brave commander: "...After conducting reconnaissance, the advanced battalions began to force. But it was still slow, as the enemy from the West Bank met the crossing units with heavy fire. Then Colonel S. M. Danielyan with the division's artillery commander and a group of staff officers went to the river. All the guns and mortars were moved here. Powerful volleys they suppressed a significant part of the enemy points. Under cover of artillery fire, the crossing resumed." The second order of the red banner was added to the military awards of Sumbat Melikovich. On July 19, 1944 in the life of the commander of the division was a joyful, exciting event: the commander of the third Belorussian front hero of the Soviet Union army General Ivan Danilovich Chernyakhovsky on behalf of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR awarded the order of the red banner, the Colonel Danielyan - the Patriotic war, first degree. Hundreds of soldiers and commanders were awarded high government awards. Sumbat Melikovich wrote to his wife: "Dear Araxia, We continue to fight with the Left. He's already a senior Lieutenant. Together with all we are driving the enemy to the West. We will soon win and return home, never to part with you again. What have you heard about Norika? What front is he fighting on? Take care of yourself and wait for us... " And a week and a half later, a letter from military friends and comrades-in-arms was sent to Baku from Simias: "Dear Araksia Martirosova! We, comrades of the guards of Colonel Danielyan Sumbat Melikovich, Express our deep condolences on the untimely death of your husband. Together with You, we mourn and bow our heads over the ashes of our beloved commander, under whose leadership we passed a difficult but glorious military path..."it Happened on July 30 at 14: 30. Early in the morning, he went to the observation post, where he watched the battle. NP was located in a small house of a peasant of the Aleksandras of Rutkauskas, who lived near the village Melaleuca. The circumstances forced us to resort to this option: there was a bare field all around - no hillock, no tree, no shrub. At 13 o'clock, the Germans, quite unexpectedly, began to shell the house. Maybe it was generosity, kindheartedness, or maybe a burst of courage that called him closer to the battlefield. Only he did not want the war to leave the peasant homeless. And the Colonel decided to move to the division's command post. After thanking Lutkauskas, he went to the checkpoint in a car with his son Levon and staff officers. Two kilometers East of Simnas, they were attacked by six enemy Focke-Wulf-190 dive bombers. A bomb exploded near the car, was killed Sumbat the M. and Lavon is seriously injured. (He died of his wounds shortly after the victory). The comrades-in-arms finished their letter with these words: "The sad news of the commander's death quickly spread through the battle lines of the units. Guards with a cry of: "Avenge the enemy for the death of the commander" rose in a rapid attack. By the morning of the next day, we had driven the Germans 25 kilometers West of Simnas. Araksia Martirosova! We, the companions and followers of the military cause of Sumbat Melikovich, promise You to beat the hated enemy with even greater force and avenge him irrepressibly and mercilessly." The guards kept their word: they fought hundreds of kilometers to Konigsberg. They stormed the fortress and hoisted the battle guards banner over the capital of East Prussia. It should be noted here that Levon Smbatovich Danielyan, the son of Colonel Smbat Danielyan's guards, also participated in the initial period of the battle for the Caucasus. Commander of the air defense platoon of the 68th marine rifle brigade of the 18th army, chief petty officer Danielyan L. S. in the battles from July 26 to October 4, 1942 in the area of the village of Kuleshovka, Peshkovo and Kura-Tsipe, not only shot down 2 enemy aircraft " Messerschmitt -110 "and one" Junkers-87", but with his DShK machine gun repelled a seeping group of enemy submachine gunners in the area of the brigade's command post. For these feats, the brave soldier was awarded the order of the red Star by the order of the commander of the black sea group of troops of the Transcaucasian front No. 044/n of November 5, 1942. In 1944, on the first Baltic front, he was an aide-de-camp to his father, Colonel S. M. Danielyan.
