The faces of WWII Heroes

Varaksina Evdokia Ivanovna_x000D_ _x000D_ Title: Senior sergeant. Branch of the armed forces: Military medical staff. Frontline sister. Unit: 69th anti-aircraft artillery Dresden order of Bogdan Khmelnitsky division. Varaksina Evdokia Ivanovna (1922-2008), my second cousin, sister of my great-grandfather Fyodor Ivanovich Gorbunov. Grandmother Dusya, as my mother called her, was born on September 7, 1922, in the village of Pokrovskoye in the Yegorshinsky district. In addition to her, two older brothers and a younger sister grew up in the family. 1933 was a hungry year. My grandmother was brought to my brother Fyodor Ivanovich in Asbestos to study. In the same year, the seriously ill father died. She was the eighth in her brother's family. After finishing seven classes, she worked as an accountant at the factory No. 2 "Giant". In 1941, the city Committee of the Komsomol organized nursing courses. Forty girls were trained on them after the main work. The practice was held at night. They were on duty in the hospital, located in the building of the vocational school, in the infectious diseases and surgical departments. In February 1942, 19-year-old Evdokia Gorbunova volunteered for the front as a nurse. From Sverdlovsk, they went to Naro-Fominsk in freight cars on bunks, but no one complained about the inconvenience. After distribution, she went to the army mobile field hospital No. 2261 in the village of Gribovo (near Moscow). It was located 10-15 kilometres from the front line in the forest. Throughout the war, Baba Dusya worked in canvas tents. The wounded were washed, urgent operations were performed, and they were sent to the deep rear for treatment. You could say it was the second line of help for the wounded. I had to work without rest for two or three days. What a rest, if you can only hear it: "Sister, fix your hand", "Sister, my leg is numb..." In addition, they are already amputated. It's hard to see the suffering of the wounded. A person dies before your eyes, and sometimes you can't help them. My grandmother always remembered the first soldier who died. Ran to the doctors with tears, and they calm her down: "Dusenka, you can't help him. You don't have enough tears for everyone." The young nurse was impressed by the courage and endurance of the wounded. There was no sound of their screams, only groans and gnashing of teeth. Together with the 69th army, Evdokia Ivanovna was on the Western, Voronezh, Steppe 4th and Ukrainian, 1st Belorussian fronts, liberating Poland. She met the victory in a forest near Berlin. At the end of May, she signed on the walls of the Reichstag. The war was over, but my grandmother worked in a hospital in Berlin until November 1945. Doctors were not very pampered with awards, but Evdokia Ivanovna was awarded medals: "For the Victory over Germany" and "for military merit", the badge "excellent sanitary service". For the war, she has six commendations from the command of the 69th army. She finished the war with the rank of senior Sergeant in the medical service. After the Victory, she worked for 32 years at a mechanical repair plant as an accountant, including 23 years as a chief accountant. She knew many of the workers not only by sight but also by their first and patronymic names. Evdokia Ivanovna was also engaged in public work: for many years she was the Secretary of the election Commission, a distributor of periodicals. In 1978, she went on a well-deserved rest, but still actively participated in the public life of the plant and the Council of veterans. Her parents instilled a love of work in her and her two brothers. They both worked at the Uralasbest repair and mechanical plant all their lives.

Vodolozhko Aleksandr Gavrilovich_x000D_ _x000D_ Title: Lieutenant Colonel Branch of the armed forces: Armored and mechanized troops Division: 5th tank division on the day of the victory in the great Patriotic war of 1941-1945 in Russia and other States of the former Soviet Union, an unprecedented campaign "Immortal regiment" is being held. It became a popular part of the Victory Parade and United more than twelve million people in its ranks. The immortal regiment stirred up a wave of memory about the heroes of the great Patriotic war: veterans of the army and Navy, home front workers and partisans, prisoners of Nazi camps, blockade-runners, resistance fighters... About all those who made their personal contribution to the common cause of the Victory over fascism. Personal memory is the most important meaning of the "Immortal regiment".My great-grandfather Alexander Vodolozhko was born on July 10, 1923. in the Voroshilovgrad region (Luhansk region) of the Ukrainian SSR. When the war began in 1941, he was not taken to the front, because he was too young, and so he attributed to himself in the passport for another 2 years. First, he graduated from courses for officers and then studied at the tanker. During combat operations, he proved to be a competent specialist and expert in military Affairs, in connection with which the command sent him to the defence plant to receive new tanks "Joseph Stalin -2" for pieces. When my great-grandfather became the commander of one of them, he spent the entire war on it. Later, Alexander Gavrilovich was trained at the Zhukov Military Academy. After that, he became the commander of a self-propelled battery. My great-grandfather fought in the 5th Panzer division of the II Belorussian front. He took part in the defence of Stalingrad, in the East Prussian strategic offensive and in the assault on Konigsberg, crossing the Neman and Oder rivers. During the Pskov-Ostrovskaya offensive operations from July 17 to August 5, 1944, with the rank of guard senior Lieutenant, Alexander Gavrilovich commanded the SU-152 self-propelled battery of the 326 guards heavy self-propelled artillery regiment. During this time, the battery destroyed 17 enemy anti-tank guns, 25 machine-gun nests, 6 heavy guns, 12 ammunition wagons, 4 vehicles, and 2 self-propelled artillery pieces. Destroyed by fire and tracks to a company of Nazi soldiers and officers. On August 5, my great-grandfather was seriously injured and evacuated to the hospital. For these military achievements, Alexander Gavrilovich Vodolozhko was awarded the government award-the order of the Patriotic war of the 1st degree. In the same 1944 year, during the fighting in the area of Skachki, the tracks of a self-propelled installation were hit by enemy artillery fire. It was not possible to return fire from the installation gun. Seeing that the enemy launched a counterattack, Alexander Gavrilovich quickly organized the defence of his combat vehicle by the personnel of the crew, machine gunners, and, confidently interacting with infantry units, during the night repulsed three fierce attacks of the fascists, destroying about a company of enemy soldiers and officers. Thanks to organizational skills, concentration, discipline, the ability to react quickly and find the right solution in difficult combat situations, my great-grandfather were able to keep the combat vehicle intact, without allowing irretrievable losses. In our family, as a family heirloom, my great-grandfather's dark blue tunic, whose chest is dotted with military awards, is carefully preserved. Including: - two Order of I degree of the great Patriotic war, two orders of II degree great Patriotic War Order red Star, combat medal "For the capture of Koenigsberg", "For defence of Leningrad", "For Victory over Germany" and two medals "For military merit", besides, for the shown courage in battles on the territory of Poland, he was awarded the medal of the Polish command. And how many jubilee medals Alexander Gavrilovich was awarded after the war! My great-grandfather graduated from the Great Patriotic War with the rank of major in the tank forces. However, even after that, he did not leave the military service. His whole life was devoted to military Affairs, the defence of our Fatherland. Alexander Gavrilovich Vodolozhko completed his career as Deputy Head of Civil defence of the Severodonetsk production Association "AZOT".It's a pity that there are fewer and fewer people like my great-grandfather over time. In addition, for what they did for us, the current "free" generation, the war heroes should be thanked not only on holidays but on every day. I am proud of my great-grandfather, his steadfastness, courage and immense love and devotion to his Homeland.

In May 1941, he was discharged from the service. And in June 1941, he was mobilized due to the beginning of the war. He served in the great Patriotic war as an assistant platoon commander in the 524th heavy gun artillery regiment (until January 1942), then as a platoon commander (until 1946) in the 37th guards gun artillery regiment. At the end of the great Patriotic war, he was transferred to continue his service in the Far East but did not participate in combat operations. Retired on May 13, 1946. My grandfather to all grandfathers grandfather! My grandfather is a veteran of the Great Patriotic War. Vasily Ivanovich Vadyasov was born on December 19, 1924, in the village of Vasilyevka, formerly part of the Bolkhovskaya volost of the Kurmyshsky uyezd of the Siberian province, now the Sechenovsky district of the Nizhny Novgorod region. Just turned seventeen, the war began, the most terrible of all the stories of the country. Motto: "Everything for the front! Everything for victory!” found a warm response in the soul of the young man. In August 1942, it was time to take up arms in defence of the Motherland. Drafted into the active army. Brought to the Kremlin, where the formation of units going to the front. In November 1942, he was sent to the Volkhov front, which was commanded by General Meretskov. The troops of the front were preparing to conduct an operation to break the blockade of Leningrad. On January 12, 1943, the troops of the Volkhov and Leningrad fronts went on the offensive. Because of six days of persistent bloody fighting, the blockade of the city was broken. In those battles, Vasily Vadyasov was wounded in the arm. Having broken the siege of Leningrad, the Volkhov front units continued to develop the offensive in the Western and South-Western directions. In one of the battles in February 1944, Vasily Vadyasov was wounded a second time. This time in the leg. He was sent to a hospital in Leningrad, the wound was severe and he was sent to the evacuation hospital in the city of Cherepovets, Vologda region. After five months of treatment, the medical Commission found him unfit for military service, and he was sent to the local military enlistment office. By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR on December 22, 1942, the medal "for the defence of Leningrad" was established.in 1947, Vasily Vadyasov started a family, marrying a fellow villager Nadezhda (After whom I was named) who was awarded the medal "for valiant labour in the great Patriotic war of 1941-1945. After the war, Vasily worked flawlessly. In the 60s and 70s, he became a famous master in the area for growing second bread-potatoes. He was awarded the gold medal of the VDNH of the USSR for obtaining high yields. Vasily Ivanovich Vadyasov died on 21 November 2011.

The holiday of May 9 is approaching. Great day in Russia. On this day, the participants of the war bring tears to their eyes; they remember the battles, the battles, the blockades and, most importantly, the long-awaited victory. Our family went to the front of two of my great-grandfather Abdul-Vagizovich the valley and Gali Galievich. After the end of the war, Abdul-Valeivich was admitted to the hospital, he had pneumonia, and there he died. And it was like this. Sitting in the swamps, they waited for hours for the fascists-to warn their troops of the danger or in cases of extreme danger, to repel it. And the second grandfather is unknown, he is missing. Only a few years later, a letter came informing us that he had died. 1941-1945-these years are familiar to every Russian and will remain in the memory forever. Since June 22, 1941. The first and most difficult stage of the great Patriotic war lasted until November 1942. During this time, the armed forces of Nazi Germany carried out two major offensives, trying to defeat the Red Army and win the war, but both offensives were stopped by the steadfastness and courage of the Soviet people. The greatest valour and heroism were shown by the Soviet wars in the battles for Smolensk, in the defence of Leningrad, Kyiv, Odesa and Sevastopol. In the historic battle of Moscow in the winter of 1941-42, the Red Army inflicted the first major defeat on the enemy in World War II. The first period of the war ended with a successful defensive battle of the Soviet troops near the walls of Stalingrad. Hitler's plan for a "lightning" war was finally thwarted. Despite a serious opponent, we were still strong in spirit! Victory! This is the greatest happiness for a soldier-the knowledge that you helped your people defeat fascism, defend the freedom of the Motherland, and restore peace to it. The knowledge that you have done your duty as a soldier. Duty is heavy and beautiful, above which there is nothing more precious on earth! Perhaps there is no family that does not survive this grief. That is why may 9 is a national holiday of valiant Russia that will remain in the minds of all generations for many centuries!

Volikov Nikolay Nikolaevich_x000D_ _x000D_ Title: Foreman. Branch of service: army, air force (except marine aviation), the coast guard, the troops of the NKVD border troops. Division: ninth guards airborne Poltava-Taganrog red banner order of Suvorov and Kutuzov division. Nikolai Nikolayevich Volikov was drafted into the army in October 1940. He was sent to study at the school of sanitary instructors in the city of Chkalov, where the war that began in June 1941 found him. Upon graduation, he was awarded the rank of Sergeant-sanitary instructor. And he was sent to the airborne troops, where for four months the soldiers received military training (mastered skydiving). In February 1942, as part of the 4th airborne corps, which is approximately 12 thousand people, great-grandfather was parachuted into the enemy's rear in order to block the road, the retreating Germans, to limit the supply of food and equipment approach. The release was made at night, in the dead of winter. Everyone had to gather at the fires lit by the partisans. The Germans saw the bonfires and started bombing them. The soldiers had to run for their lives along the meter-long snowdrifts away from the fires. Great-grandfather was lucky; he immediately found a pair of skis and lost when landing fur MITT. Having connected, the corps began to perform the combat task assigned to it. They fought until June. Planes supported communication with the «mainland», and wounded soldiers were sent to them. Here in the rear, my great-grandfather was awarded the medal "for military merit". He was also concussed there. He woke up in the village, in a house where there were three more wounded and the owner with two children. The bombing started, and they took shelter in the basement. A bomb exploded near the house, the house was destroyed, and they survived, although they barely got out from under the ruins. They fell behind their unit and began to move independently to the front line, got into a minefield, explosions started, the Germans surrounded them and took them prisoner (and sent them to a large pow camp in the city of Krichev). The prisoners were then transported to France. There, Russian immigrant has helped some Russian soldiers to escape to the French partisans. So great-grandfather in the French army liberated France. After the victory, all the Russians were gathered in camps, equipped at the expense of the "red cross" and began to be sent home. They were transported to Germany on American planes and returned to the Soviet Union on foot via Poland. Here they were again enlisted in the army, and at the end of the war, great-grandfather served for another year. Soviet soldiers who had withstood the worst of the brutal war were now rebuilding their shattered Homeland.

It consisted of the 54th tank brigade-TBR, formed on 18.10.1941 from the 54th tank division-TD. Simultaneously with the formation of the second GV TK, i.e. 26.12.1942, the 54th TBR was re-formed into the 25th guards tank Yelninsky order of Lenin red banner order of Suvorov brigade. So this formation can be briefly presented as follows: 25 GV TBR (Yelninskaya) 2 GV TK (Tatsinsky). The 54th TD mentioned above was formed in 3.1941 and was part of the 28th mechanized corps of the Zakavvo, from which IT was withdrawn on 24.7.1941 to 47A Zakavf (from 23.8.1941). From 11.1941 to 4.1942, the 54th TBR fought in 56A, 12A, 37A of the southern Federal district, and from 5.1942 in 24 TC. As part of the 2 GV TK, there was also the 30th separate guards motor transport company for fuel supply, presumably related to the service of Vtorov I. P. in the operation at Konigsberg, along with the combined arms armies, tank and mechanized corps participated separately: 1 TK, 3 GV KK, 8 MK, 8 GV TK, 1 GV TK, 3 GV TK, 5 GV TA. But they did not have a division under No. 54. 15.4.1989 of the USSR Ministry of defence, he was awarded the jubilee order of the PATRIOTIC WAR of the 2ND DEGREE (No. 38) for bravery, fortitude and courage shown in the fight against the Nazi invaders (http://podvignaroda.mil.ru [ http://podvignaroda.mil.ru ] ). It was also marked with commemorative medals in honour of the victory In the great Patriotic war of 1941-1945 and the Armed Forces of the USSR. In 1996, he was awarded the ZHUKOV MEDAL. In 2000, he was awarded the badge "front-line SOLDIER 1941 -1945". After the war, he worked as a truck driver. In 1975 and 1979, he was awarded the "Winner of the socialist competition" badge. He was buried in the city Astrakhan at the Trusovsky cemetery. From his first marriage, he had a son and a daughter. Second marriage with nee Krasnova Evgenia Vasilyevna (7.1.1929-27.11.1995). Children from her: Lyudmila (Danilova, Korovina, 13.8.1949), Lilia (Zakharova, Zvereva, 28.5.1956-2.1.2007), Vladimir (6.1.1950 - 1976).

Title: Senior lieutenant. Branch of the armed forces: Military medical staff. In July 1941, in Moscow, Anya graduated from the paramedic and midwifery school. She was 17 years old. There was no prom... The war began. Since her second year, she had been a nurse in the infant Home where children without parental care were admitted. Therefore, I immediately decided to save the wounded soldiers. When enemy air raids on Moscow became more frequent, the baby's House was evacuated to the village of Mikhailovskoye in the Perm region. There, Anna Denisovna was called to the local military enlistment office. She had to walk five kilometres to get there.- Frostbite then my feet, - says the veteran. - The military Commissar at the sight of me was surprised why such a young girl came here. And I was like, «You called me." At that time, in St. Michael came to the hospital, where he received many of the wounded and sick red Army soldiers. Anna Denisovna bandaged the wounded and took care of them. In 1943, the front-line nurse was already working as part of the evacuation hospital No. 1958 of the Second Ukrainian Front, which was stationed in the village of Lisovo, near Kharkiv. They didn't stay here long. Then there were Ukraine, Moldova, and Romania. In Hungary, she found her destiny. A patient with jaundice, artillery captain Anatoly Volobuev, was admitted to our hospital, «said Anna Denisovna.»The doctor gave him an IV. However, his veins were poorly defined, so no one could get in, which left blue bruises on his hands. I'm able to put him on a drip. Then Anatoly asked that only I come to him. Then we started texting. After the war, he found me in Kharkiv, where I lived with my uncle. Anna Denisovna met Victory day in Hungary, in the city of Miskolc. She remembers that happy day. Everyone sang and danced. After the war, the veteran worked as a nurse in the Kursk psychiatric hospital for 47 years. Her daughters, Alla and Tatiana, and grandchildren followed in her footsteps. In 1971, Anna Volobueva was awarded a government award - the order of the red banner of Labour. In a prominent place, in the apartment of a senior Lieutenant of the medical service, numerous military awards Shine in gold: "For the victory over Germany in the great Patriotic war of 1941-1945", order of the Patriotic War second grade, and others.

Vitvinin Andrey Ivanovich_x000D_ _x000D_ Andrey Ivanovich Vitvinin – my great-grandfather, who took part in the great Patriotic war of 1941-1945. Born in 1896 in the village of Khoroshaviny, Arbazhsky district, Kirov region. He graduated from three classes of the parochial school with honours. In 1915, at the age of 19, he went to the front of the first imperialist war. He graduated from the training team, became a junior commander-non-commissioned officer. In 1918, after the conclusion of the Brest peace, he returned home, but soon was again called up to the Red Army, where he served until 1921. In 1930, Andrey Ivanovich was one of the first to join the collective farm and was mainly in leadership positions of the Khoroshavinsky collective farm and the Roevsky village Council. Called to the front in 1942 by the Khoroshavinsky district military Commissariat of the Roevsky selsoviet of the Arbazhsky district of the Kirov region. From that moment on, Andrey Ivanovich Vitvinin fought on the Leningrad front as part of the 284th rifle regiment of the 86th rifle division. Military rank-private, military speciality-shooter. The 284th rifle regiment, formed in December 1941, was the first special NKVD protection regiment designed to protect the ice route as the only way connecting the enemy-blocked city of Leningrad with the inner country and its industrial centres. During the period of service on the protection of the Ladoga Lake highway, the regiment brilliantly fulfilled its combat mission. From February 1942, it was part of the 86th rifle division. On April 24, 1942, the regiment took an active part in holding a bridgehead on the left bank of the Neva River – "Nevsky Pyatachok". In September 1942, the regiment's units were the first to cross the Neva River, where they fought a heroic struggle to capture and hold the captured bridgehead. In January 1943 the division the regiment was involved in breaking the blockade of Leningrad; the battalions, crossed the Neva river, broke through long-term defenсes on the Eastern Bank of the Neva river near the city of Shlisselburg and one of the first broke through the enemy ring is connected with part of the Volkhov front. From the 86th infantry division, where he served as A. I. Vitvinin, a letter of thanks was sent to the Arbazhsky district, which was published on August 5, 1942, in the newspaper "Kolkhoznaya stroika" of the Arbazhsky district: "Andrey Ivanovich Vitvinin serves in our unit. We inform you that upon arrival to our unit, this fighter proved to be a devoted patriot of our Motherland, a loyal son of the Soviet people. He is not young in age, but some young people had to learn from him, with what temperament, with what desire he performs any task of command. This fighter serves as an example in our division; he is listed as an excellent student of the combat mission. We thank the RC VKP (b), the District Executive Committee and the district military Commissariat for a dedicated messenger to protect the city of Leningrad. The political leader Olevanov, commander senior Lieutenant Navarin". Since January 14, 1944, the 284th rifle regiment has been actively fighting in the first echelon from the area of Pulkovo heights. From the report of the chief of staff of the 86th rifle division, Colonel Khokhlov: "In January 1944, the regiment as part of the division breaks through the enemy's defences in the area of Pushkin, while simultaneously protecting the left flank of the 42nd Army, operating in the direction of the main attack. In the future, withstanding fierce counterattacks of the enemy continues the offensive. The regiment's capture of one of the most important points of resistance in the enemy's defence in the area of Pushkin contributed to the overall success in defeating and clearing the Leningrad region of German invaders. During the period of heavy fighting for the liberation of the Leningrad region from the German invaders, the regiment-personnel showed a lot of heroism." On January 25, 1944, the 284th rifle regiment occupied the German stronghold of Voiskovitsy station and the locality of Ilkino (Leningrad region), thereby cutting the railway and the Krasnogvardeysk (now Gatchina) – Kingisepp highway, because of which German troops could not evacuate the encircled group of troops blocking and shelling the city of Leningrad. Having the Voiskovitsy and Il'kino, warriors infantry division supported 871th light artillery regiment and 220th tank brigade, did not allow the breakthrough of the fascist tanks and infantry from the environment. The task set by the command was completed, but the price of this small victory was high: in a few days of fighting, 80% of the personnel were killed. Unfortunately, because of a fierce battle that unfolded on January 25, 1944, A. I. Vitvinin was also killed, not having lived to lift the blockade of the city of Leningrad for two days. Since at that time the Soviet troops were actively attacking, Andrey Ivanovich was buried in a common mass grave, the location of which was later lost. In the 1970s, search teams of Leningrad pioneers found the burial of Soviet soldiers. According to a note in a shell casing found among the personal belongings of the victims, Andrey Ivanovich Vitvinin was identified. Together with 141 Soviet soldiers and officers, he was reburied in a mass grave at the Voiskovitsy station in the Gatchinsky district of the Leningrad region.

On May 1, 1942, she went to Gorky for a 6-month special-purpose intelligence-training course and, after completing it, went to the front. She was assigned to the 541 radio division named after B. To do this, she had to learn Morse code and master the equipment in a short time. The radio division named after B. Khmelnitsky was "hunted" by the Germans because it was the only one on the entire front. In the winter of 1943, near the city of Leningrad, my grandmother intercepted an encrypted radio message that the Germans were planning to bomb our military hospital in the city of Valdai. For this, she received the Order of the Patriotic war and the Order of Military Glory second grade. My grandmother was on many fronts: the Northwestern front from 06.1941-02.1944, the 1st Belorussian front from 02.1944-11.1944, the first Ukrainian front from 11.1944-09.1945. By their actions, the division's soldiers made an invaluable contribution to the defenсe of the cities of Leningrad, Moscow, the liberation of Minsk, Brest, Warsaw, Prague, the defeat of Nazi Germany and the capture of Berlin! "It is pleasant to remember that on March 31, 1945, in commemoration of the Victory in the battles for the capture of the cities of Ratibor and Biscau, the capital of our Motherland, Moscow, saluted the soldiers of the 1st Ukrainian front, including the soldiers of the 541 radio division "Osnaz". After the capture of Berlin, a week later, the division was sent to the Czech Republic, and there until December 15, 1945, Czechoslovakia was being liberated. On December 15, 1945, she was discharged home. After going through the entire war, my grandmother was wounded during the bombing in Warsaw and spent 3 months in the hospital. After the war, my grandmother devoted her life to children, working as a math teacher at school № 29 for forty years. I am very proud to have such a grandmother. And I am very sorry that she has had so many trials. Thanks to the Victory won in that war, we now live under a peaceful sky.

Vasiliev Sergey Nikolaevich_x000D_ _x000D_ Rank: Senior Sergeant. Type of troops: armoured and mechanized troops. Unit: 11th Panzer division. The war found Vasiliev Sergey Nikolaevich in the tool shop of the Podolsk mechanical plant, where he worked as a thread grinder. But not immediately after mobilization, he got to the front. In November 1941, he was assigned to a training unit. After completing it, he became a tank driver and received the rank of Sergeant. The young tankman received his first baptism of fire in June 1942 near Voronezh. Then the German-fascist hordes were rushing to Stalingrad. In many tank battles participated with his combat 34, a mechanic driver Sergey Vasiliev. But perhaps the most stressful days of his combat life were during the battle of Kursk. Everyone was extremely happy that they had stood on the Volga, held off the enemy's onslaught in the steppe expanses of the Oryol region, and then drove them west. In the battle for the city of Orel, the fearless tankman was seriously wounded. The doctors said that he would no longer have to drive a combat vehicle. However, Senior Sergeant Sergey Vasiliev did not leave his combat vehicles; he remained in the ranks and became a technician. He was doctoring wrecked cars right on the front line. What was needed here, were his experienced working hands, soldier's wit and courage. In 1944, the unit in which S. N. Vasiliev served crossed the river Vistula. Here the veteran soldier received his first award - the medal "For military merit". Then the battles for the liberation of Poland, entry into enemy territory. During this time, the technician of field repair shops, Senior Sergeant Sergey Vasiliev, together with his front-line comrades, restored hundreds of combat vehicles. In January 1945, the Military Council of the First Belorussian front awarded him the order of the Red Star on behalf of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR for the rapid commissioning and high-quality repair of tanks on the front line. A soldier from Podolsk also had the opportunity to participate in the battle for Berlin. Here he received another wound but again remained in the ranks. An experienced soldier-repairman worked in those days literally without getting a wink of sleep, ensuring that as many of our tanks as possible remained fully operational. His hard military work was highly appreciated by the command and at the walls of the defeated Berlin; he received his third military award - the Order of Glory3rd rank. In November 1945, the soldier-worker finally took off the soldier's greatcoat from his shoulders. However, the rest was short-lived. A month later, he came to his native factory, to his tool shop, where in 1966, for his success in fulfilling the tasks of the seven-year plan; Sergey Nikolaevich Vasiliev was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labour.
