The faces of WWII Heroes

Title: Red Army man. Military branch: Ground forces. Military unit: 329th Rifle Division (1st formation). Joseph Yakovlevich took part in many military battles. Throughout October 1943, there were fierce combats on the Dnieper. Our troops sought to hold and expand the captured footstrongs, the fascists wer going to throw the Soviet soldiers into the Dnieper. All branches of the Armed Forces took part in these combats. The blow was so strong that the enemy began to withdraw. The front was broken. On the night of November 6, the fighting unfolded in the Northern outskirts of Kiev and gradually began to move to the center of the city. Thousands of soldiers were awarded orders and medals. For his bravery and heroism, Joseph was awarded the medal For Courage. The battle for Kiev was the main link in the battle for the Dnieper and footstrongs on the right bank of Ukraine. _x000D_ Developing the offensive, the enemy was driven out of Zhytomyr on November 12. The enemy resisted fiercely. For the liberation of Zhytomyr, Joseph received a high award, the Order of Glory of the 3rd degree. The Germans hastily began to take measures to rectify the situation on the front. In the area of Zhytomyr on the Eastern front they began to transfer forces, mainly tank formations. On November 15, the Hitlerites launched a counteroffensive. But nothing came of it. The counterattack of the enemy was repulsed. A huge foot-strong was formed for the liberation of the entire right-bank Ukraine. _x000D_ Joseph had already become a true recon. _x000D_ The most memorable was the battle for the Polish city of Sandomierz. During the whole August 1944, there were fierce combats here. From the recons and sappers, a combat group was selected, and the command set a mission: to capture the height from which the Hitlerites clearly viewed a vast area and fired in the area of the city of Sandomierz, since it was impossible to launch an attack, because of the heavy fire. Under the cover of night, the fighters went out on a combat mission. The battle didn't last long. The fascists were stunned by the suddenness and boldness of our soldiers. The height was taken. The way for an offensive was open. _x000D_ For his effort, Joseph was awarded the Order of the Red Star. When an offensive was planned, a brave recon always went to the enemy location for the "prisoner tongue". He had never failed, because his loyal Assistants in the hard military work showed courage, determination, ingenuity, dexterity, the ability to navigate around, make the right decisions in any situation and had faith in victory. He personally took 11 prisoners.

HISTORY: Petr Fedotovich Minaev was born on January 27, 1920 in the Bryansk Region, Trubchevsky District, in the village of Yurovo. He graduated from the 7th grade of the Yurov School in 1937. He was excellent student. He entered a Medical College in Bryansk and graduated with excellent and good grades in 1940. In the period from 1940 to 1941, he worked as a Feldsher in the vicinity of the village and the village Radotina Blight. n the first months of the war, our grandfather was sent to study in the Urals at the Artillery School. While he was a cadet from 8.09.1941 to 9.09.1942, the war had reached Stalingrad. The School was closed. My grandfather was sent to the Stalingrad Front (1942-1943) as a front-line medic. _x000D_ He remembered the city of Stalingrad as the battered Volga banks, the water boiling from the explosion of shells, and the city in flames of conflagrations. The Volga, where the water is mixed with blood, was boiling from the explosion of shells. To cross the river, one had to push corpses away, so many soldiers were killed. In 1943 he was a feldsher of the Division of the Rifle Battalion on the Voronezh, then he was a feldsher of Medical Company at the Steppe front, later 2nd Ukrainian Front. _x000D_ From September 1943 to May 1945 he had been a Head of Medical Company Pharmacy. He participated in the liberation of Prague and celebrated Victory there on May 9, 1945. But the fighting continued in Prague even after May 9, 1945. _x000D_ In October 1946, he joined the Communist party of the Soviet Union with a pride and honor of that time. _x000D_ On November 22, 1946, our grandfather married Miria Stepanovna Grinkova and went with his wife, Minaeva Maria Stepanovna, to Cahul, Moldova, where he had been working as the Head of Medical Company Pharmacy until 1948. _x000D_ My grandfather had 14 state awards: 1) Order of the Patriotic War, 2nd degree as of March 11, 1985 2) Order of the Red Star, as of 1944 3) Medal "For Military Merit" 4) Medal "For Defense of Stalingrad" 5) Medal "For Liberation of Prague" 6) Medal "For Victory over Germany", 7) Medal “20 years of victory in the Great Patriotic War 8) Medal “30 years of Victory in the Great Patriotic War” 9) Medal “40 years of victory in in the Great Patriotic War” 10) Medal “30 years Soviet Army and Navy” 11) Medal “50 years of the Armed Forces of USSR” 12) Medal “60 years of the Armed Forces USSR” 13) Medal "Veteran of Labor" as of 22 July, 1982 14) Pioneer of Excellent Health of the USSR as of 18 April 1961, 7 commendatory certificates, 6 anniversary awards. My grandfather's military rank is Senior Lieutenant of the Medical Service. _x000D_ On September 22, 1948, our grandfather was demobilized and placed in the reserve. Upon returning home our family arrived in the village of Yurovo. Peaceful postwar life started. During 1948-1974 he had been working as Feldsher of the Yurov Medical Center (Bryansk Region, Trubchevsky District). Working as a feldsher, he was an eye doctor, a children's doctor, a General practitioner, a gynecologist, and a surgeon, who applied 12 stitches each, working alone with a patient, when there was no other doctor to submit the necessary sutures. _x000D_ For his impeccable and fruitful work, our grandfather was an excellent student of the USSR Health Service, a Veteran of Labor, and a Feldsher of the 1st category. The motto of our grandfather's life: the life and health of a person is the meaning of my life and happiness. In the foreground there was always a struggle for human health and life. _x000D_ He was retired in Bryansk on February 1, 1980. In 1983, from August 20 to 24, grandparents were in Kharkov at a meeting of veterans-fellow soldiers of the 93rd Guards Kharkov, Twice Red Banner Orders of Suvorov and Kutuzov Rifle Division ( 40 years of liberation of Kharkov from the Nazi invaders 1943-1983), where they remembered the Kursk Bulge. Pyotr Minaev was a wonderful man, son, husband, father, and a grandfather. Our dear man passed away on December 13, 1992.

Sergey Ivanovich Morozov was born in 1912 in the village of Krominskaya in the Arkhangelsk Region of Kargopolsky District. Becoming a military officer was a conscious choice of Sergei Ivanovich, and in 1934 he was already listed as a cadet of the Regimental School of Junior Commanders, and then, after successful completion of his studies, became an Assistant Commander in the Murmansk Separate Rifle Regiment (1934). _x000D_ In the same year, he marries Anna Yegorovna, and the happy newlyweds move to Murmansk to live. Sergei Ivanovich had two sons, the youngest of whom, my grandfather Valery Sergeyevich, had never seen his father. _x000D_ In 1939-1940 Sergei Ivanovich has already passed the Finnish war as a career officer. On the eve of the Great Patriotic War in May 1941, Sergei Ivanovich is listed as the Head of the Communications Department of the 18th Separate Company. Sergei Ivanovich was transferred as part of other units and formations to the front line, but not to the North, but to the Central part of the country. His wife and children left Murmansk to experience the horrors of war in a village in the Arkhangelsk Region, closer to their parents and loved ones. Unfortunately, the data where exactly Sergei Ivanovich fought before 1943 has not yet been found. It is only known that in the summer of 1943, he was in a Penal Battalion, on the front line of the Voronezh Front. _x000D_ It is clear that in such battalions during the war, people were often sent for the slightest misdemeanors. And the leadership of the Voronezh Front was famous for keeping "penalty takers" much longer than the prescribed three months, and used them to perform the most dangerous missions. Sergei Ivanovich did not write to his family about this, as well as about what he experienced during the battle for Kharkov in August 1943. But he survived, the front line moved forward, _x000D_ He was again on the front line as part of the 6th Guards Army, 67th Guards Rifle Division. This Division liberated Belgorod and Kharkov in the late summer and autumn of 1943. Fighting in fierce combats with the SS divisions "Das Reich" and "Deadhead" the 67th Division advanced deep into the Ukraine. As recorded in the log of combat operations in early September, the Division had a combat mission taking Height 1 67.5 in the direction of Kolontayev-Kubashevka. On the night of September 9 to September 10, 1943, the Division prepared to attack early in the morning. The offensive was successful the enemy began to withdraw from the attack of the troops, crossed the Merla river, and began to blow up the crossings. Under heavy German fire, the crossings were restored. Sergei was killed in this combat on September 10, 1943. _x000D_ In the documents, the site of his burial is listed as the village Murafa, which is 20 km from the front line, as well as the entry "killed in military action". There is another entry in his personal file: “the Penal Battalion, operating on the front line as part of the 67th Guards Rifle Division of the 6th Guards Army, showed themselves in the combats with the German invaders disciplined, expressed wisdom, bravery, courage, and atoned in the combats for their guilt before the Motherland, to restore all the former rights of officers from October 4, 1943.” _x000D_ He was buried in a mass grave near the village of Murafa, Kharkov Region. He gave his life in the fiercest battles, passed through the earthly hell, and his blood is on the banner of our Victory.

He was born in 1918 in the village of Sushikha, where his family used to live for a short time. He returned to his native place after the war in 1946. _x000D_ There he had lived for 58 years with my wife, raised his sons, and worked selflessly. He retired in 1978. He went through the war from the first day to the last. In 1938, he was called up to serve in the Red Army, sent to the Far East on the border. In July-August 1938 near lake Khasan, in 1939 on the Territory of Mongolia, near the Khalkhin Gol participated in battles with units of the Kwantung army of the Japanese. _x000D_ In 1940, he was demobilized, later studied at Automobile School and was sent to the Jewish Autonomous Region of the Khabarovsk Territory, worked as a driver at a mine, lived in the forest in tents. Many could not stand the harsh conditions and left. He heard about the beginning of the war at work. A day or two later, he received a summons from the military recruitment office. He was called up in June 1941 from the Far East, from the city of Blagoveshchensk. At first, he guarded the border in the Far East. _x000D_ In October 1941, his military unit was transferred to the west near Moscow. Then he fought at Tula, Kharkov, Belgorod, Oryol, on the Kursk Bulge. _x000D_ He was three times wounded and concussed. At first, he was a driver, in 1942 he was bombed, the car caught fire, his comrades pulled him out concussed, he was in the hospital, his eardrum was damaged, and his ear ached until 1947. _x000D_ In 1942-1943, he fought in the 19th Tank Brigade as a Tank-man. In 1943, he was wounded in the right arm, and was hospitalized for 3 months. He was cured and returned to the front line, where a mine exploded nearby in one of the combats, and his entire back was riddled with shrapnel. Again the hospital, the fragments were removed surgically and with the help of a magnet, 3 months on the recovery and again to the front in early May, 1943. _x000D_ He participated in the historical tank battle of Kursk Bulge. He burned twice in a car, once in a tank. Twice he had to cross the Dnieper. It was one of the bloodiest and terrible battle of WWII. They crossed to the opposite bank whenever they had to. And both times they found themselves on a steep right bank of the river that hung over the water like a sheer wall. For these combats, he was awarded the orders of the Red Star and the Patriotic War, twice the medal For Courage. _x000D_ These were the dear awards for a veteran of all that he had. On March 12, 1944, he was wounded by a sniper's bullet in the cheek (the veteran still remembers this date and marks it as his second birth), the bullet went through, knocking out his teeth and grazing his tongue. It took six long months of treatment first in Moscow, then in Chelyabinsk. At first the doctors put a gag in the mouth at night to prevent the wound from drying, it was very hard. _x000D_ After the hospital, he became a member of the 2nd Ukrainian Front in 1944 in Romania near the city of Pitesti, liberating the capital of Austria, Vienna. He celebrated Victory in May 1945 in Austria, participated in the Prague operation as part of the 6th Guards Tank Army, took part in the destruction of the remaining group of Nazi troops in Czechoslovakia, from July 1945 until the demobilization in the city of Jihlava, Czechoslovakia. _x000D_ During the war years, he was an infantryman, tankman, and signalman. After the announcement of the German surrender and the end of the war, he did not return home immediately. He ended the war in Czechoslovakia in 1946. 50 years after the end of the war, he was awarded the order of the Red Star for the tank battle on the Kursk Bulge. He came home to Sushikha, went to work in the kolkhoz "Lenin's Victory", and on January 1, 1949, he was enrolled in the Ust-Lukovskaya MTS, which was responsible for kolkhoz equipment, as a tractor driver, where he worked on a DT-54 tractor. He received certificates, diplomas and valuable prizes for good performance for his work. _x000D_ He got married, in 1949 his son Vladimir was born. A year later, in 1950, his wife passed away and left him alone with a small child. After some time he married Shura Baklanova, gave birth to 3 more sons: the elder Nikolai drowned in childhood, Sergei and Anatoly live with their families in Ust-Lukovka and Sushikha. On July 1, 1958, in connection with the reorganization of MTS, he was transferred to work at the Lenin kolkhoz. In 1961, the Lukovsky Sovkhoz was established, which consisted of 4 villages: Lukovsky, Susica, Rogalevo and Tarpaulin with Central office in the village of Kersey. _x000D_ On February 21, 1961, Yakov Nesterovich joined the staff of the Lukovsky sovkhoz as a combine harvester. In 1963, there was a disorganization of the economy, as part of the Lukovsky, there remained 2 branches: Lukovskoe and Sushinskoe. Yakov Nesterovich worked for 18 years as a combine harvester, repeatedly received commendations, diplomas, was awarded a badge of honor, the medal "For the Development of Virgin Lands", the VDNH medal. He retired in July 1978.

HISTORY: My grandfather Metersky Yakov Borisovich was born on April 25, 1913 in Skobelev (Fergana, Uzbekistan). In early childhood, he was left without parents. He was raised in a family of relatives living in Tashkent. He studied at the Tashkent Dzerzhinsky School No. 29. In the mid-20s, he became a pioneer. In 1927, he joined the Komsomol. On August 25, Soviet and British troops simultaneously crossed the border of Iran. On the third day of the operation, the 83rd Turkestan Mountain Rifle Division began fighting in the mountainous regions of Iran. Iranian troops with two infantry divisions occupied the defensive lines in the mountainous regions of Mashhad and Gorgan. _x000D_ Despite the convenient defensive positions, the Iranian forces offered little resistance and on August 29, 1941, the Armed Forces of Iran laid down their arms to the British, and on August 30, to the Soviet troops. _x000D_ On September 8, 1941, an agreement was signed defining the location of allied troops in Iran. Iran was divided into two occupation zones: the British (Southern) and the Soviet (Northern). The allied operation “Consent” was the most fleeting and almost" bloodless " (40 people were killed). Thanks to its successful outcome, the southern transport corridor was protected, along which allied troops carried out lend-lease supplies for the Soviet Union, and Germany and its allies were denied access to the oil fields. _x000D_ The 83rd Turkestan Division as part of the group of Soviet troops was in Iran in the areas of Mashhad and Gorgan until November 1942, performing the protection of the southern borders of the USSR. In September 1941, Commissar Metersky was appointed Secretary of the Communist Party Bureau of the 67th Artillery Regiment of the 83rd Turkestan Mountain Rifle Division. In March 1943, it reached the Minsk shosse, was stopped by German troops, and at the beginning of April 1943, it was taken to the near rear for rest and manning. From May 1943 to June 1944 comrade Metersky participated in combat operations as part of the 200th Separate Sapper Battalion of the 192nd Rifle Division of the 68th Army. Near the city of Yelnya on August 9, he was seriously wounded in the head. After recovering, he returned to his military unit. As part of the 200th Separate Sapper Battalion, he reached the border of Russia and Belarus. _x000D_ Since June 1944, he fought as a member of the 46th Separate Anti-tank fighter Division (46 OIPD) of the 210th Rifle Division of the 31st Army on the 3rd Belorussian Front, in April-May, 1945 on the 1st Ukrainian Front. He was a participant in the events in Mongolia at Halkin Gol and for his bravery was awarded the Order of the Red Star, which he received from the hands of Mikhail Kalinin in Moscow. There was a large photo of him sitting near Kalinin in a group of awardees. _x000D_ By this time, his family was living in the city of Solikamsk in their own house across the Usolka river. Aunt Anna Andreyevna also moved in with them. The hut was not large, and in addition to them (and there were six of them), my cousin and my wife and I, and the sister of Pyotr wife, Tatiana, lived here, ten in all. And everyone was comfortable in this small house, although at night they were all placed more on the floor, since there was nowhere to put a bed. The soul of this large group was Pyotr, a cheerful, sociable person. _x000D_ He went to the front as a volunteer, and there was a report about him in the newspaper ”Solikamsky Rabochy", as about a very experienced and respected front-line Communist, the pride of the military unit. He served in the North-Western direction of the front in the Anti-Aircraft Division. _x000D_ He was missed in action, leaving a wife with three young children and a mother. His wife died of tuberculosis, and before that she married again, gave birth to a girl, and now the old mother of Pyotr was left alone with four children in the hard post-war period. They offered to send her children to an orphanage, but she did not give up anyone, raised all her own grandchildren, and did not offend the fourth girl, who was later taken away by her father. _x000D_ All of Anna's grandchildren were educated and became true people, just like their father, mother and grandmother were." The letter sent from the command of the military unit where Malgin Pyotr Prokhorovich fought is our family pride. _x000D_ “The command of our Anti-Aircraft Division, operating in the North-Western direction of the front, sends you combat bolshevik greetings. In this letter we want to tell you how your former worker, now a Red Army fighter, Communist, Senior Sergeant Comrade Malgin is fighting the German-fascist degenerates. Pyotr earned the love and respect of all his personnel from the very first days of joining the Division. A wonderful Junior Commander, a sensitive sympathetic comrade, a fearless front-line soldier, he showed truly miracles of bravery and courage in battles with the fascist thugs. Comrade's Department. Malgina is the best in the division. Pyotr brought up and educates his subordinates in the spirit of high military discipline, instilling in them excellent fighting qualities: courage, military ingenuity, and most importantly, ignorance of fear in combat. For successfully completing the missions of the command, for high military discipline and courage, comrade Malgin had already received several commendations before the formation. Peter Malgin is our pride. We are appealing to you, workers, employees, engineering and technical employees of the plant. The enemy is wounded, but it is still combat-ready. Many of you may have to join the ranks of brave fighters. Your mission is to be ready for this. Working in the rear, fulfilling honorary orders of the front, never forget to study military service. Written by comrade Burba, a Division Commander of Rakitin Commissioner of the division and Burlachenko, Secretary of the Communist Party Bureau.” This is an article from the newspaper "Solikamsky Rabochy" for January 1, 1942.

Ivan Dmitrievich Medvedkov was born on June 29, 1914 in the village of Putyatino, Putyatinskaya volost, Sapozhkovsky District of the Ryazan Province. During the Great Patriotic War, he was conscripted by the Putyatinsky Regional Military Committee of the Ryazan Region on July 5, 1942 and enlisted as a Rifleman in the 3rd Separate Anti-tank Fighter Brigade of the reserve of the main command in the company of machine gunners. He received his first baptism of fire in the battle for the Kursk Bulge, where there were fierce battles with the German-fascist invaders. The battle was unequal, but despite the obvious superiority of the enemy in combat equipment and manpower, the enemy did not break through our defense. On July 1-2, 1943, acting as a Sergeant of a Company of machine gunners, he participated in the battles to liberate the village of Teploye in the Kursk Region. In two days, the Company knocked out 8 tanks and destroyed a large number of Germans. Personally, comrade Medvedkov destroyed about 7 sub-machine guns. For these combats, he was awarded the medal For Courage. From 5 to 9 July 1943, he participated in the battles in the area of the station Ponyri of the Kursk Region. In this area, up to 300 enemy tanks were concentrated against the 3rd Fighter Brigade, supported by artillery and mortar fire. A company of machine gunners was shot down over 20 tanks and destroyed a lot of enemy manpower. Personally, I. D. Medvedkov was destroyed by more than 10 sub-machine guns and hit one tank with an anti-tank grenade, at the same time he was heavily concussed. For these efforts, he was awarded the order of the Red Star. _x000D_ After recovering, he returned to his military unit and continued to participate in the combats to liberate the cities and villages of this country from the German-fascist invaders. _x000D_ In 1944, he participated in the battles for Belarus, participated in the liberation of the cities of Pruzhany, Bobruisk, Minsk, Brest, acting as a Platoon Commander. Ivan was again awarded the order of the Red Star for the destruction of a platoon of 12 enemy tanks and more than 60 sub-machine guns. He received the third order of the Red Star for the liberation of the city of Warsaw in 1945, where their platoon destroyed 11 tanks and more than 70 sub-machine guns. Personally, he destroyed 14 German sub-machine guns. He was awarded the order of the Patriotic War 2nd degree on June 9, 1945 for ensuring timely preparation of operational staff documents in hard combat conditions under continuous artillery fire and uninterrupted bombing from the air, which did not affect the successful completion of the combat mission of the High Command For Capture of Berlin. _x000D_ Particularly fierce and bloody battles took place in the city of Berlin, where the Nazis fought desperately for every house, room and basement. In these combats, the soldiers and commanders of the military unit heroically fought and repelled several times a day attacks by tanks and infantry, destroying 15-20 tanks and a lot of enemy manpower. _x000D_ Ivan Medvedkov finished his military service as the Head of the Staff's Records Department with the rank of Guards Sergeant Major. He was discharged from the army on February 16, 1946. Since August 1946, he had worked as Chief Accountant of the Putyatinsky branch of the State Bank. He passed away on May 30, 1987.

He used to be a revolutionary participant of the Winter Palace Assault from the crew of the battleship Slava. He was enlisted in 1916. On October 4 (old style), 1917, the battleship Slava was killed in a battle with the Germans in the Gulf of Riga. Konstantin and his team were transferred to Helsingfors (Helsinki). From Helsinki on October 23, the entire crew went to the cadet barracks in Petrograd (St. Petersburg). _x000D_ On October 25, they participated in the assault of the Winter Palace in Pst. Petersburg. The crew was controlled by the Bolsheviks, who sent everyone to Tsarskoe Selo to defeat the Junkers and Cossacks. And then the crew was transferred to Gatchina. After demobilization, he worked on the Michurinsk railway until his retirement in 1980. He was married and had two daughters and three grandchildren. He passed away in November 1998.

He had been a participant of three wars. My grandfather on my father's side, Senior Lieutenant Mikhail Mishustin, went through more than one war and, fortunately, returned home. Even before the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, in 1939 he graduated from the Ordzhonikidze Military School of Frontier and Internal troops of the People's Commissariat of Internal Affairs of the USSR named after S. M. Kirov. As one of the most responsible and prepared graduates, he was sent to the Soviet-Finnish war, where dexterity and proficiency in professional skills were needed. So Mikhail went to his first war. _x000D_ There was not only war in the air, but also hope for its speedy end and a peaceful life, there were families and a strong desire to win and return. A year earlier, my grandfather met my grandmother Olga, whom he married in early 1938. In fact, their birthday was on the same day, month and year, July 20. After the Soviet-Finnish war, my grandfather returned in June 1941, as it turned out later on a short-term vacation, because the Great Patriotic War had started… Leaving my grandmother his photo, which is dated June 27, 1941, he again went to defend his Homeland, now against the Nazis. This was his second war. _x000D_ Throughout the Great Patriotic War, Mikhail served in military reconnaissance on the front line, as part of the 696th Separate Communication Battalion of the 9th Tank Brigade, participated in many operations to liberate cities, fierce battles, crossing rivers and obstacles. His crew went through all the battles unscathed. But at the very end of the war, in May 1945, in Berlin, during the storming of the Reichstag, a shell hit my grandfather's tank and, bursting inside, wounded him in the neck, barely missing his spine. The rest of the crew were killed. _x000D_ By chance, my grandfather was rescued by the Marines and sent to the hospital. For courage and bravery repeatedly shown during combat missions to liberate the cities from the German invaders, the capture of Berlin and the storming of the Reichstag, that in spite of the hard combat situation and under the enemy’s fire heroically ensured the continuous operation of stations and vehicles, lighting, and radio communications command post of the Tank Corps with units and higher staffs, grandpa was awarded the Order of the Red Star and the order of the Patriotic War 2nd degrees, medals and letters of thanks. _x000D_ Mikhail celebrated Victory in the hospital. Immediately after his discharge, he was sent to serve in the NKVD (Security Service), where his third war started, while peace was already established in the Soviet Union. My grandfather caught Nazi spies and “non-descendants” on the territory of Europe and the USSR, declassified cunning schemes for transmitting information to the enemies of the Soviet Union. Thus, the military operations for my grandfather lasted for more than 10 years and ended only in 1949… _x000D_ Despite severe injuries, my grandfather had continued to fulfill his duty until 1954. He served in the Ministry of state security of the USSR as a Senior Operative Commissioner for the East Kazakhstan Region, worked with the Agency, tracked down and detained political criminals, spies and saboteurs, mostly German, and again often was away from his beloved wife. _x000D_ All these years, my grandparents were in different parts of the country, but they believed in a speedy end of the war and the long-awaited meeting. They were very fond of each other. Several times during the period of the Great Patriotic War my grandfather came home on leave to the grandmother. Their encounter was long-awaited and brief. After one of these short vacations, my uncle Anatoly was born, and after the second, my father Vladimir was born. _x000D_ It was very hard for my grandparents to go through a long separation, but they overcame everything and later worked together in the same school. My grandfather was a handicraft teacher, and my grandmother was a teacher of Russian Language and Literature.

Vladimir Ivanovich was born on February 20, 1905 in Oryol in a family of hereditary nobles and priests. He studied at the 1st Male Gymnasium. In 1923, he entered the Kharkov Medical Institute, after graduation he worked as a village doctor in Saltyki, Kromsky District, and then returned to Oryol, where he was admitted to the infectious diseases hospital. On June 22, 1941, Nazi Germany attacked the Soviet Union without declaring war. On October 3, 1941, the city of Oryol was occupied by the Germans. About 30 thousand inhabitants and thousands of wounded soldiers and officers remained in Oryol. The Germans occupied the best buildings in the city, including the military hospital at the corner of Komsomolskaya and Krasina streets. All the wounded were thrown into the street, legless, armless, and covered in bloody bandages. On the first day of the occupation, the Germans did not deal with documents, checks, or executions. It was night, the dreadful night of the third and fourth of October. The doctors, feldshers, and nurses of the hospital did not leave the wounded and sick. A mad and only correct decision was made to transfer them to the Infectious Diseases Department of the regional hospital, which was headed by Vladimir Ivanovich Turbin. On the morning of the next day, the entire courtyard was filled with moaning and dying Russian soldiers and officers. A German in uniform came and said to Turbin: “These are our prisoners of war. Tomorrow you must transport them to the pow collection point. If you don't do this, all the doctors will be shot in an hour.” The depot was the Central Prison, one of the eagle's most feared places. What would you do in the place of Vladimir Ivanovich Turbin, who had such a burden? Dr. Turbin became the first and main organizer of medical care for Soviet prisoners of war and civilians in occupied Oryol. In these harsh days, Vladimir Ivanovich not only performed a truly hard work of a doctor, but he did a lot to save as many of our soldiers as possible from German captivity. _x000D_ Doctors and nurses were rewriting and correcting medical records to fit the Department's profile, and the wounded were turned into the civilians. Communists, commanders, political workers, and Jews were recorded under false surnames, and their old medical records were destroyed. After a few days, all the medical records were in order, and the Germans treated the documents with respect. Everyone was assigned to wards, corridors, and utility rooms, and there was room for everyone. _x000D_ At the entrance to the Department hung a sign: Infektionabteilung (Infectious Disease Department). On the fence around the entire perimeter of the infectious town, “Typhus”, "Diphtheria", "Infection" were written in German. The Hitlerites were very much afraid of contagious diseases and shied away from the intimidating inscriptions. In fact, in the Infectious Diseases Department, under the very nose of the fascists, there was an underground hospital. This medical institution existed during the entire period of occupation under the name “Russian hospital”. The soldiers who were cured of their wounds were recorded as dead and transported back to the front line. The winter of 1941-1942 was very cold, severe frosts hit in November and lasted until spring. It was hungry and cold, and it was also necessary to avoid the spread of typhus and other infectious diseases in extremely crowded wards. The only infectious disease doctor V. I. Turbin did not leave the hospital for days at a time. By December, the typhoid fever had been overcome, and the work to rescue our prisoners of war continued. _x000D_ If the Gestapo found out that Turbin was hiding prisoners of war, Jews and those who were hiding them would be taken to the concentration camps in Germany, He and all the staff of the Russian hospital would be shot immediately. During the last month and a half before the liberation of the city, doctor Turbin did not leave his infectious "town". Tired, he stood on his feet for days, fulfilling not only the duties of a doctor, but also the duty of a Soviet citizen-patriot. Not counting civilians, the Russian hospital saved about a thousand soldiers and commanders of the Soviet Army. _x000D_ The work of doctors V. I. Turbin, S. P. Protopopov, V. A. Smirnov, B. N. Gusev, L. A. Tsvetkova and others was highly noted by the Chief Doctor of the Soviet Army, N. N. Burdenko: "... there was a true underground hospital here... This is a battle won!»

Serganov Sergey Sergeevich_x000D_ Rank: Colonel_x000D_ Type of troops: Artillery. _x000D_ Guard Colonel Serganov Sergei Sergeevich was born in the Bryansk region in a family of workers. After completing 7 classes at school, S. S. Serganov continued his studies at the technical school of the Bryansk locomotive building plant "Krasny Profintern". Then he worked as a senior designer of a copper-Nickel shop and had an exemption from service in the army. _x000D_ From the very first days of the war, the plant began to operate under the wartime regime, and on July 3, 1941, an order was received to evacuate the plant to the rear of the country beyond the Urals to the city of Krasnoyarsk. In December 1941 Bryansk machine builders began to send grenades and mortars to the front, later wagons and locomotives. In Kovrov, at the machine gun factory, factory employees participated in the production of Degtyaryov hand-held machine gun , ShVAK aviation cannons, and sub-machine guns. Disturbing news had reached the rear, the enemy was at Moscow, and the situation was serious. _x000D_ Serganov, having abandoned his exemption from active duty, voluntarily came to the regional military Commissariat in November 1941 with a request to send him to the front. Given his education, life experience and ability to lead people, he was sent to study at the Kirov (1st) Red Banner Artillery School in Krasnoyarsk. After completing 6 months of training, on May 2, 1942, Sergey Serganov received the military rank Lieutenant and went to the Bryansk front as Deputy chief of Staff of the Artillery Division. However, the situation at the front quickly changed and in June 1943, Serganov became the commander of the control platoon of the 2nd Artillery Division 152-mm guns of the Shuisky 602th Gun and Artillery regiment, where he proved to be a skilled artillery officer, and after 2 months became Deputy commander of the 4th battery of the 2nd Artillery Division of the regiment. _x000D_ In the presentation for the award of the order for Patriotic war I degree No. 20304036 from 10.07.1943, Senior Lieutenant S. S. Serganov in battles with the German invaders showed courage and bravery. _x000D_ «05.08.43 year Serganov received the mission to destroy the bunker, which occupied a dominant position in the area of Height 203, 3; to counterattack with fire the intersection of the roads and the section of road from Height 203, 3 to Lipovaya Balka. This bunker was used as an observation station. On the night of 5/6 July 1943, comrade Serganov rolled out a gun to the very front edge in the area of 6-I Kurganov, 2 km west from Novo-Sergeyevka, and in the morning during the artillery preparation with direct fire, despite the heavy shelling of the enemy guns from mortars and machine guns, destroyed the bunker with 4 accurate hits. Destroyed: machine gun, stereo tube and 6 Germans, including 3 officers. For his brave actions and good shooting, he received a commendation from the commander of the 40th Army's Artillery. Senior Lieutenant Serganov is a brave and strong-willed battery commander, who always performs the missions assigned to him with honor."_x000D_ "At the end of 1944," recalls Sergei Sergeevich, " we were 100 km from Berlin. The Germans stubbornly resisted, feeling that their days were numbered. There I received a through wound in the leg, but was treated at the local medical center. I also remember an artillery duel with the Germans during the storming of the fortress of Glogau in the spring of 1945, when two guns fired direct fire against each other. Our crew had a better qualifications and with the first shot we hit the enemy cannon. _x000D_ I met Victory day in Prague, and before that, on May 7 - 8, we listened to the Sovinformburo reports to ceasefire and capitulation of Nazi Germany on the radio. The fraternal Czechoslovak people were jubilant, we were given a living corridor when we met, people stood with flowers and shouted in Czech "Nazdar! Nazdar!" (Hello, Hello!). Then, in the war, we lived as one family, all the Nations, there were brothers-Slavs. We fought together against a common enemy, and our Victory was shared.»

Sinitsa Andrey Filippovich_x000D_ _x000D_ Title: Red Army Man _x000D_ Sinitsa Andrey Filippovich came from village of Shilovo, Smolensk region, and had been a participant in 3 wars: the Finnish, Japanese and Great Patriotic war. He was called up for war by the military Commissariat of the Smolensk region. He served on the Belorussian front as a private, then as a commander of an artillery gun. _x000D_ Once, he was captured by the Germans in the Smolensk area, but he escaped successfully with a fellow countryman from the village of Lyubavichi. He attributed his luck to the fact that his countryman understand some German. They found out about a rest break on the road and a change of guards. The hustle during the change of the guard helped them to disappear. Then he went to the military enlistment office again to join his regiment. _x000D_ Another story of his lick happened during the attack, when his gray soldier’s overcoat was shot through by a German machine gun. Ar first, he did not pay attention to this and continued to run at the enemy along with everyone else. Later the platoon commander looked at him and said: "This is not an overcoat, but a sieve of some kind. And not a single wound! You are a lucky man, Andrey! So you will go through the war and stay alive. There is such a soldier's sign." My grandfather didn't really believe in superstition back then, but the soldier's sign worked in his case. _x000D_ In the post-war years, he often recalled that incident and told this story the children in his native village school when he was invited to the Victory Day. He was shot twice. At the end of the war, he was wounded in the leg and received a severe concussion. He was sent to a Leningrad hospital for long-term treatment and was discharged in 1946. He regretted that he had not not participated in the capture of Berlin because of his injury. Sinitsa AF was personally acquainted with Sergeant M. Yegorov, (they were fellow countrymen and lived 25 km from each other), who planted the Banner of Victory over the Reichstag together with M. Kantaria. _x000D_ Sinitsa Andrey Filippovich was awarded the order of the "Patriotic war", the medal "For Military Merit", "For Courage" and jubilee medals. After the war he returned to his native village to join his family, where five children were already growing up. He worked at a kolkhoz stable and was buried in the local village cemetery.
