The faces of WWII Heroes

Rank: Red Army soldier. Branch of military: Army, Air Forces (except marine aviation), Coast Guards, the troops of the NKVD, Border Guards. Korogodin Vasily Fedorovich. In boots with windings, with a duffel bag and a three-line rifle over his shoulder, from C. Yarishche to Saburovo, walked in February-March 1943 V. F. Korogodin. "I would go further, but... Vasily Fedorovich is an amazing storyteller, a trusting interlocutor. You will involuntarily listen to it about your past life, about people. Talkative old man: - I did not think to be in the war, not only did I think so alone, so I had to meet the Nazis firsthand and where - in my village, - recalls V. F. Korogodin. — Long before the Germans entered Drovosechnoe, we were already affected by the war: the evacuation of public property and livestock, receiving funerals from the front by relatives. It was hard. Very. I had to smell the gunpowder in that war in the battles of young and old, men and women, what to say. Like it or not, you will not give your share in life. — I went to the front, left my wife with five young children." After seven days of training, V. F. Korogodin was enlisted in a rifle regiment as a private. Walking along the military road. Medvedeva on the mountain, behind the village Podkopaeva, Maloarkhangel district, received the first baptism of fire. The 505th regiment advanced with fighting, though slowly. Pleshcheevo, Gubkino and other localities of the Oryol region were liberated with fierce fighting. - And here is Saburovo not far away, across the river. We stopped not for a break, but to strengthen the front line with trenches and anti-tank ditches. And they dug them from each other through 10-20 meters to the front line both day and night. At night, Korogodin participated in sorties on the front line of the enemy. Their group of 7 fighters spent about three hours at the enemy trenches in Saburovo, scouting the location of firing points. During the withdrawal, they came under artillery fire and machine-gun fire. They did not throw two wounded soldiers on the battlefield, but dragged them to their location crawling on their masks. They brought valuable information for the command. On March 6, we received an order to start breaking through the German defense in the area of Saburovo. At about 6 am, artillery preparation began — Katyusha guns, long-range and close-range weapons were launched… After a while, our stormtroopers processed the front line of the German defense. And then a chain of T-34s crawled, and the rifle divisions of our regiment moved after it. Bravely, bravely, boldly our soldiers fought for their Homeland, for Orlovshina, not sparing their lives! Ahead, of course, the Communists……Vasily Fedorovich regained consciousness in a mobile medical unit. The lower jaw is tied up, the mouth can't open, and I wanted to say something, I couldn't...So, the soldier thought, everything is lost in my life, since there is no jaw. But he was reassured by the doctor, a kind woman: "there Is no reason to worry, everything will be fine, everything will be fine." She washes almost completely torn off part of the face and quietly talks to him. In the Chelyabinsk hospital, both teeth and tongue were repaired, and the lower half of the head was sewn in place. "Yes, they sewed it on and tied it to the top, but what does it feel like for me," Vasily Fyodorovich continues, " neither to take food, nor to talk… And they fed me through a pacifier, like a small child, for almost two months, thin porridge and tea. Vasily Fedorovich received the gratitude of the Supreme commander-in-Chief and six awards of the Motherland at home, after the hospital. And the first salute of Moscow in honor of the liberation of the Oryol region was heard in Chelyabinsk. And he thought that this is a salute not only for the victory over the enemies of the survivors, but also the memory of those who died on our Oryol land. Kutepov, Selkor.State Farm.

During the War, there were not enough men and he was offered a job as Chairman of the collective farm Berezovaya Griva, but after working for several months, Nikita went to the front as a volunteer. It was already May 1944, the older brother was killed at the front and the younger one was missing. Our troops were already driving the Germans West and liberating the countries of Eastern Europe. Nikita liberated Romania, Hungary, Austria, and fought near the city of Budapest. A submachine gunner of the 252nd rifle division there was seriously wounded and sent to the hospital. By mistake, he was considered dead and a funeral was sent home. In July, Nikita sent a letter from evako-hospital No. 1135, he did not know that his family received a funeral, said that he was seriously injured. My great-grandfather Viktor Karpenko was born in Ukraine on April 18, 1924, in the small town of Krasnograd. When the Second World War began, he was only 17 years old, but he had already graduated from "chauffeur" and started working. The Germans bombed Ukraine and then began to evacuate businesses and people. A young boy drove a truck loaded with machines to the rear and returned for the next consignment. He really wanted to go to the front, but his age did not allow it, they said: "too small yet." To make himself look taller, he put a log on his seat and barely reached the pedals with his socks, but he performed the work not as every adult. He still wanted to go to the front. And then he lowered his new passport into the water, the letters blurred and the grandfather attributed 2 years to himself, so that it would be for sure. I brought the last car with cargo to the rear and ran to the military enlistment office. At that time, they did not really understand all the subtleties, they were suitable for the front by age. So he ended up in the War and began his combat career in the 325th anti-aircraft regiment as a driver. It was not easy for a young boy. My grandfather told me how he brought ammunition to the front line under the terrible fire of enemy artillery. Sometimes the car had to be repaired under fire. It was scary. So the service took place at the wheel until it came under the siege of Leningrad. And the only road for our people was through the frozen lake Ladoga. Then it was called the “Road of life”. And here on this road they carried bread in trucks to the Leningrad blockade. The Germans constantly shelled the lake, you could slip-your happiness. Twice my grandfather drowned in Ladoga, and twice he was saved. Once a car in front was hit by a bomb and the ice began to crack, the car went under the ice. Grandfather managed to jump out of the car on the running Board and began to throw the bags away. The thought was one: "at least how much to save!!» The car began to go under the water and hit him on the ice. It was very scary, but my grandfather said that many people did this, there was no time to be afraid, because they were carrying not just bread - they were carrying the life. My grandfather survived. So he fought, and reached Romania. And in 1944, in the city of Budapest, he was hit by a terrible bombing and was seriously wounded and contused. That's where his war ended. Like everyone else, my great-grandfather lost a lot of friends in the War, but he did not really like to remember it. In this photo, Viktor Karpenko's great-grandfather is in hospital after being injured in Budapest. He was awarded the medal "for military merit", "for the capture of the city of Budapest", "for the victory over Germany", the order of the Patriotic War II degree". My mother told me that my great-grandfather was a very kind and cheerful person, he was always very sympathetic and was respected among all his friends and neighbors. Unfortunately, I have never seen my great-grandfather, but my family keeps a good memory of him. As a witness of the existing history of my country, I would very much like to see the memory of such people preserved not only by my relatives, but also by the memory of the great Victory of the Russian people for centuries to come.

About the war years, Manuel Nikolaevich seldom told us, and we, the girls, were not particularly interested. I remember very well that he was very fond of the song" Dark night " performed by Mark Bernes and always fell silent and distracted from everything when he heard it on the radio. In 1965, he was awarded the jubilee medal "Twenty years of victory in the great Patriotic war of 1941-1945". All the post-war years, Manuel Nikolaevich worked in the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the protection of the State Bank. He was awarded the badge "excellent police officer", the medals " for impeccable service "(15 and 20 years), the jubilee medal "50 years of the Soviet police". He died on 30.07.1968 in Vologda. He was buried at the Poshekhonsky cemetery. Manuel Nikolaevich lived his short life with dignity, he was a good defender of the Motherland and an excellent father. Unfortunately, he is not alive to see his grandchildren. We will keep his memory in our hearts and the hearts of our children and grandchildren for the rest of our lives. Marina Ryabkova, daughter.

Rank: Senior Sergeant Branch of military: Artillery Division: 3rd artillery Zhytomyr order of Lenin Red Banner order of Suvorov breakthrough division From the memoirs of V. A. Kartashev It was in May 1943 on the territory of Ukraine. We have received orders to destroy the accumulation of enemy equipment. We, the scouts, noticed a tall tree near the forward position of the German trenches. I managed to climb this tree without being noticed. Through the binoculars, you could see everything you needed. Our battery started firing, I corrected the fire by phone. Soon the Germans, apparently, guessed where the fire was being corrected, and began firing mortars at the tree. I could feel the large fragments of mines hitting the tree trunk. Received several minor injuries. One of the large fragments tore off the nail of the thumb and shattered the bone of the phalanx of the finger. Wiping the blood from my forehead, from the wounds, and pressing my finger to stop the bleeding, I continued to look through the binoculars and adjust the fire of our howitzers on the wired phone. The accumulation of enemy equipment was destroyed. The order was executed. When it was dark, I slipped down from the tree and reached our trenches and reported everything I saw. For this and other similar battles, I was then awarded the first medal "for bravery", and later appointed to the post of commander of the Intelligence Department. Battle path of Kartashev V. During the years of military service in the active army, Alexander kurnashev had to serve and liberate many cities and countries of the Union republics. On the account of Alexander Petrovich, the struggle for the besieged Stalingrad, the Kursk Bulge, the liberation of the Caucasian republics, the capture of Melitopol in Ukraine, the liberation of Rostov and Donbass, the battle on the banks of the Dnieper river. For military services, Alexander Petrovich was awarded the order of the Patriotic War, 2nd class, and the medal "for the victory over Germany". Our veteran was born on September 12, 1923 in the village of Chuvarleika. After graduating from a 2-class school at the age of 14, he began working on the Gorky railway. When the War began, he was sent to build the Gorky highway. As an 18-year-old boy, he was called up to the front in August 1942. Alexander Petrovich shared his memories of that terrible War with us: “After completing the training courses, we were sent to Stalingrad, our train was traveling in the Salsk steppes, we had horse artillery with us. At this time, we were hit by a barrage of fire from Romanian and German planes, during the bombing we jumped to the ground, had to retreat crawling on our backs, while we were driving half of the people lost. At the front, I had the opportunity to command an intelligence Department. I always had 5 people. Tested and non-smokers (one of the most important characteristics, because the smell of tobacco can give away). The main task was to create a "language". - Heavy fighting was going on for the city of Melitopol,” - says Alexander Petrovich. - the Division that was supposed to oust the Germans, was already defeated. Therefore, a new detachment was formed from the battalions, which included me. We were commanded by senior political officer Maria Batrakova. She fought on an equal footing with men, was distinguished by courage and bravery, not for nothing was she awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union. Many soldiers were killed while crossing the Molochnaya river. For the heroic liberation of the city of Melitopol from the Nazi invaders, Alexander Petrovich Kurnashev received a letter of gratitude from Joseph Vissarionovich Stalin. -There was another case where I had to risk my life, - says A. P. Karnachev. - During the battle, the cable was interrupted by a shell. It was necessary to restore it. The commander had sent four men, but not one of them had returned from the mission, and the cable was still broken. It was my turn. I asked the commander for binoculars to study the area and see where the guys who were killed are lying. Nearby, I noticed a path trampled by cows. So I decided to crawl along it, putting on my duffel bag. The commander was still surprised: why did I need it - only to carry an extra load on myself. But I was careful, the German sniper hit the duffel bag. All I could hear was the sound of bullets hitting the pot. I found the gap, connected the wires. When I returned, I took off my duffel bag, but it was like a sieve: the loaf was crumbled, the greatcoat was shot through. And I'm happy, I completed the task! We shot down this sniper with machine guns. For this, the commander wanted to introduce me to the order of the red banner of Battle, but during the next bombing, all the documents were lost. - I had to take prisoners, - says the veteran. – The battle for the Donbas was given to hard. Many of the enemies preferred to surrender after the encirclement, one moment I remember for the rest of my life, after the battle 7 enemy soldiers surrendered, among the prisoners were Bandera and Vlasovtsy who asked that they be left alive. I wrote them a note to the headquarters that they surrendered without a fight, voluntarily, with a request to take more lenient measures against them. Then I sent them to the headquarters, which they went to on their own. And sometimes you'd crawl so close to German that you could hear them talking, and throw them a grenade. Alexander Petrovich also remembered the fierce battles for the Dnieper river, and our interlocutor also kindly shares his memories of them with us. -During the crossing of our troops across the Dnieper, I covered the attackers with a machine gun. A shell smashed my Maxim machine gun, and I was buried in the ground. And if it weren't for my fellow countryman-Alexander Kalishnikov from Novoselok, I would have remained under the rubble. I had a severe concussion, I had to go to the hospital, but the foreman did not let me go – he left me as an assistant, so instead of the hospital, I helped the foreman feed the soldiers for a month and a half. In 1944, my friend and I entered the Tbilisi infantry school, where we were trained for the war with Japan. Once we decided to play to pass the day: I took a balalaika, the Lieutenant-a mandolin, and Alexander Kalishnikov sang along. The distance from us to the Germans was about three hundred meters. The next morning, we were surprised to hear the sounds of a Russian accordion from the enemy. It turned out that the enemy had the Russians on their side. After returning from the War, Alexander Petrovich married Queen Anna Mikhailovna, with whom they raised a son and daughter. Our interlocutor found his vocation in the police, for good work he earned respect in the team, received the medal " for impeccable service "and the badge"excellent police Officer". In 1972, he got a job at the Arzamas machine-Building Plant in Moscow. Alexander Petrovich has long been on a well-deserved vacation and lives in our city. The last years of the front-line soldier's life were helped by his daughter Lydia Alexandrovna who gave him all her care and kindness. The veteran's grandchildren and friends were frequent guests at the house. Who knew Alexander Petrovich as a good and good-natured person. The veteran died on February 13, 2015, and did not meet the long-awaited 70th anniversary of the Great Victory.

Vladimir Vasilyevich Bobin was born on 1 August 1926 in the Ivanovo region, Ilinsky district, Makarino village. The family had seven children. He was the youngest. When the general mobilization began, there were only women, old people and children left in the village. The child was allowed to be with the horses, working like everyone else: from darkness to darkness. And soon the call to the army came. They did not send him off to war right away. First an infantry school, a tank school, and after graduation he stayed to teach. But he could not stand it and asked to go to the front. He was enlisted in an artillery regiment. And by that time the war had already passed into foreign territory. It passed through Czechoslovakia, Romania, Hungary and Austria. The fighting was fierce. After the liberation of Vienna only seven soldiers remained from the regiment. Yes, the war put Vladimir Vasilyevich to a hard test, but he survived, withstood this bloody war. He received the medal "for military merits", the medal "for bravery", "for the victory over Germany", the order of the "Patriotic War 2 degrees". The day of victory found him on the way home - near Budapest, but there he fell ill with malaria and began the ordeal in hospitals. What a fate! No bullet at the front but 4 months he could not recover from the disease. But that was not the end of his military service; it took a long five years before he was demobilized. After the hospital, the former front-line soldier joined a reserve regiment stationed in Western Ukraine. The task was to destroy the Bandera hidden near the city of Kremenets. It was not easy to do this, but the task was accomplished. Then there was a church service in Tashkent. In 1946 he received his first home leave. As his elderly parents needed support, he was transferred to the engineering troops in Shuya as a pioneer and went to the Belgorod region to clear the fertile farmland of mines. He was released in September 1950. Once home, he got a job the next day, met his future wife. Fate threw a young family into the Vichug district. Vladimir Vasilyevich worked at the club Pogorelka, worked as a projectionist, then as an electrician in the weaving mill and worked there until his retirement. When he retired, he did not stay at home, but actively worked in the factory council of veterans. Everywhere he was revered and treated with love. He is a "Veteran of Labor", a War Veteran. Awarded with the Certificate of Merit of the Ministry of Culture of the USSR, awarded with many jubilee medals, disabled of the 2nd group. We wish Vladimir Vasilyevich good health and all the best!

Borodin Georgy Nikiforovich was born in 1903 in a family of Ural Cossacks. At the age of 8 years he was left without a mother, and in 1917 his father died in the civil war defending the fatherland. At the age of 14 Borodin G. N. was left an orphan. The guardian of the great-grandfather is the uncle - the brother of the father Borodin Georgy Dmitrievich. These were difficult years for the family and the country. In 1941 the Great Patriotic War began. Georgy Nikiforovich was one of the first to receive a summons to the front and was sent to the front from the Orenburg region in the Buranny district of the village of Izobilnoye. His wife and four children stayed at home. The first field postcard from the front arrives in August 1941, with the letter saying: "I am alive and well, I am at the front. My dear family is always before my eyes. Dear children, listen to your mother, help her, it is very difficult for her now, God willing, the war will end, we will return with a victory. I kiss my dear wife and my beloved children countless times'. After receiving a letter (field map), the whole family was happy that their father was still alive, and at that time 3 calls came to the village about the death of the villagers. Maria Alekseevna started knitting warm socks and gloves and the children started nibbling pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds to send clean seeds in a parcel. They just sent the parcel, calmed down. And here you are, the callout - missing. How unpleasant cases of scam began to manifest themselves. On March 12th, 1942, it was very cold, the wind, in the middle of the night, there was a strong knock on the window. The windows were locked with shutters, the doors were locked with all the locks. Maria, wife of George Nikiforovich, wakes up alarmed and asks through the window: "Who is there?" Suddenly she hears the voice of her husband, and in panic and in disbelief, she reads a prayer aloud and raises the children. George Nikiforovich, concerned about the door, asked them to let him into the house. And only with their youngest son Mikhail, who was 5 years old, they opened the door to the house with a prayer. There was so much fear, so many different voices, tears of happiness because husband, the father of four children, returned from the front. After the call - "Missing", it is difficult to say, and even more difficult to describe the encounter of the front soldier with his family. Georgy Nikiforovich returned from the front with a white ticket, which was written off as unfit for war due to loss of sight. He took part in the fighting near Moscow, with the troops being transferred to Stalingrad, where he was given the assignment. After he was wounded at the front, he started to work in the hinterland, but there was enough work. He left himself 7 hours a day to rest. The village also lived in the hard work of the rear and reports from the fronts. They continued to send calls for the dead villagers, and occasionally there were wounded or mutilated people. The front was constantly being filled up with additional recruits, and they began to take in both the old and the wounded. In August 1942 George Nikiforovich was brought to the front for the second time. And in December 1942 a villager, a neighbor, Rakhminin Yefim, returned from the front after being wounded. He said that he and George Nikiforovich were in the same unit in Stalingrad. There was a terrible battle, there was a strong frost, in the military unit in which they participated, almost everyone was killed, several people were left. Georgy Nikiforovich, according to him, remained on the battlefield when Yefim was picked up wounded. After such news the family was very worried, day and night they waited for news from the front. Only in March 1943 a letter from the front arrived. Georgy Nikiforovich reported that he was alive and well, all the time he did not receive any letters from home. He was at the front. The letter addresses his love to his wife and children and asks the children to listen to their mother and help her in everything. What a great joy it was for the family who received the news from the front that their front soldier is alive and well and continues to fight for the fatherland with an uninvited enemy. So happy was the Borodin family, who were in a hurry to send the parcel to the front. Filling out the parcel was obligatory: warm socks and gloves, a warm jacket and some food and pumpkin, sunflower seeds. They sent a parcel with a letter inside, and the heart of the family warmed up. But the parcel did not reach the recipient. It is understandable that during heavy fighting near Stalingrad, whole military units were killed and the survivors were transferred to other units. There was no time to understand, and the family receives a repeated notification on the package - "Missing". For a long time the family mourned George Nikiforovich, but in their hearts they all hoped that God would save him. And here came the long awaited news. The family could not wait for George Nikiforovich or his letter. At the end of May 1945 he was put on the wanted list. And a notification came to the request, addressed to Borodina Maria Alekseevna living in the village Izobilnoye: Your husband, Borodin Georgy Nikiforovich died in the fight for the socialist homeland, loyal to the military oath, heroic and courageous, on March 3, 1945. Buried with saluting military honors of the southwestern district, the village of the Deschutes from the highway Braitberg Thalnsdorf, East Prussia. Authenticated. George Nikiforovich went through the war from June 1941 to March 1945. He was always on the front line and did not receive a letter from his home during the whole war.

Umar Zaalievich Bogatyrev was born in 1913 (1917) in the village of Surkhakhi, Nazran district, where he lived with his wife and daughter before being drafted into the army. He joined the army three days before the beginning of the Great Patriotic War. All recruits from the village of Surkhakhi were taken to the city of Grozny for further relocation. That is where the conscripts learned about the beginning of the war, and the next morning they were all sent to the city of Kamensk, Rostov region. Thus, the battle path of Bogatyrev Umar began from the first day of the war. At the end of 1941, after completing artillery courses, he was transferred to Ukraine. Later, he fought as part of the 1st Ukrainian front in the 53rd army under the command of Konev. In 1943, after completing junior command courses in the city of Sumy, he was appointed commander of a mortar platoon, then, his military path led him to the Kursk Bulge. The most trying test for the soldiers and officers of the Red Army was the battle of Kursk, which lasted from July 5 to August 23, 1943. In terms of scale, the forces and means involved, the intensity, results, and military-political consequences it became one of the key battles of the Great Patriotic War. About two million people, six thousand tanks, and four thousand planes participated in the battle of Kursk. Of the 13 Red Army artillery batteries on the Kursk bulge, one was commanded by U. Bogatyrev. In these bloody battles, the troops under the command of General I. Konev distinguished themselves during the offensive in the Belgorod-Kharkiv direction. Umar Bogatyrev would recall this experience. The old soldier, also, remembered the meeting with Marshal Zhukov. One day after the capture of Budapest, he approached the soldiers and, addressing Umar, asked: "Do you, Umar Salievich, think we will take Berlin?", to which he replied: "We will definitely take it, comrade Marshal!» Then Bogatyrev's platoon was transferred to Belgorod. At the end of 1944, he participated in the liberation of Poland, Czechoslovakia, and Hungary. In May 1945, being part of the 241st rifle division, an artillery battery commanded by Bogatyrev entered Berlin. In one of the 11 banner groups that hoisted the banner of Victory over the Reichstag was the Ingush Umar Zaalievich Bogatyrev. For his heroism and courage during the capture of the city of Berlin, Umar Bogatyrev was presented the order of the RED STAR! This order was awarded to him immediately after the capture of the city. Umar Zaalievich is one of the few Ingush soldiers who reached Berlin, despite the fact that the entire Ingush people were repressed in 1944.
