Tsyganok Dmitry Matveyevich (leftmost) with colleagues in Poland, 1945

He was born in Ukraine in the village of Golodaevo, Starobelsky district, Voroshilovgrad region. When the Second World War began, he served in the Baltic States. With his unit he got into the heat of the offensive of the Nazis. In one of the attacks, the squad was cut off from the main regiment, they hid in the forest in the hope of catching up with their own. With battles they tried to catch up with their own, in one of the battles they were taken prisoner. It was the beginning of the war, there were no concentration camps yet and they were taken to Germany, there they were expelled to work, the conditions were terrible. Our army liberated them, there were checks, after which he continued his service and returned in November 1946. He returned already to the Saratov region, where the family was evacuated
